My New Favorite Beauty Tools
If we were neighbors and you came over to borrow, say, a power drill or a screwdriver, you'd be out of luck. However, if you were ever in need of a heated eyelash curler or face steamer, mine would be your go-to doorbell.

While it's true that the only tools I have are beauty-related, in my defense they're essential for me to look my best. I mean, there's only so much a girl can do with her fingers. And, truth be told, I happen to like sussing out fun, new gadgets and beauty gear. Which is why I have a few more stashed under my sink than the average girl.

Here are the ones I've tested recently and subsequently added to my arsenal. You may want to make room for them in your tool chest, too.

For cleansing the face: Olay Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System, $29.99. Forget the facecloth: This at-home revolving cleansing tool gets your skin so clean that it's better able to absorb whichever anti-aging product you're going to apply. It works with your favorite cleanser and, if you're like me and tend to get lazy at night, it'll be your savior because it does all the work for you.

For makeup application: Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge, $10. This wonderful little blue sponge helps blend foundation into every nook and cranny on your face for a flawless finish. I use this sponge for more that just my foundation -- it's great for blending in blush and even eyeshadow. Plus, because it's washable and can be used again and again, it'll save you some money.

For foundation: Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush, $30. This foundation brush proves that the right tools can make all the difference in how your makeup looks. Because it has shorter bristles, you can create a "stipple" or dabbed effect with your foundation for heavier coverage. That's ideal if you want to cover up acne scars or brown spots without using concealer.

For curling hair: Top Styler Ceramic Heated Shells, $99. You may have seen these on late-night infomercials (that's what tempted me to give 'em a whirl). It's a heat-set technology system with ceramic clips, called C-shells, which allow curls to cool naturally in place so they stay longer. When heated, the C-shells reach the ideal temperature to reshape and "set" the hair in place. Even better? Because the shells are lined with ceramic and require less heat than many other tools, they won't damage your hair.

There you have 'em -- the four new tools that really wowed me. Do you have any you want to tell me about? Oh, and speaking of tools, if you've ever wondered how to employ yours in the case of a beauty emergency, click here to find out.
