Hooray for Nude Lips in a Sea of Bright, Bold Lipcolors

I know, I know bright lips are it this season -- fuchsia, blood orange, poppy and tangerine are having their heyday. Bully for them. As I've said in the past, lipstick -- specifically bold shades of it -- scares me.

It's not just that it inevitably gets all over your teeth or your glass (unless you adhere to the requisite lipstick laws) it's that, to me anyway, it screams "hey, look at me!"

That's why I was relieved to see that a whole bunch of celebs shunned the trend at last week's Met Gala in favor of pretty nude lips. Yep, stars like Blake Lively, Renee Zellweger and Penelope Cruz were in their fabulous finery rocking pretty, nude lips. Yippee. There is hope for me, and my pale mouth, after all. (Just look at how pretty Emma Roberts and Michelle Williams look!)

The trick to getting a really pretty nude lip look is to find the perfect shade, not too pink, not too tan (try COVERGIRL LipPerfection in Hypnotic, $6), and always dab a bit of gloss into the center of your lips. Sounds weird, but it totally adds dimension to your mouth and keeps the look from being too drab or washed out.

What's your feeling about bright bold lips? Do you feel comfortable wearing them? And, if so, what's your favorite shade?
