Perfect Winter Pick-Me-Ups

The dreaded winter blues can get you way, way down. Here's how to cheer up, fast

After the magic of the holidays wears off, winter suddenly doesn't feel like the wonderland it did at the beginning of December. After awhile, it seems like you're stuck in a never-ending season, and you can't wait for the day when you can finally pack your wool coat in moth balls and not have to look at it again for months.

No matter how much of a cheerful, glass-half-full kind of girl you may be, it's easy to get sucked into the doldrums of the long winter days. So, here are a few ideas to get you up and out of that slump now.

Gravitate toward color

Your mood may inspire you to wear all black, but what you wear really can affect your overall mood. Bright pops of color can actually elevate your spirits, so choose a bold eyeshadow in royal purple or a lipgloss in a juicy shade of melon. Makeup with color and a bit of sparkle is even better.

Turn your apartment into a mini spa
Take a little time on a Sunday evening to indulge in a special beauty treatment that you wouldn't normally do on a busy weekday. A facial mask rich in minerals is a perfect choice, and it only takes 15 to 20 minutes.

Brighten up with a pink blush
The winter elements can leave you with sallow skin that just doesn't exactly glow like it does in the summer. A few swipes of blush in a pretty shade of pink can make all the difference.

Go for a natural energy boost
When you're worn down, sugary sodas look even more tempting that usual. Fight the urge! Instead, try an all-natural energy drink. Pro tip: Keep these with you at work so when you hit the 4 p.m. slump, you'll be prepared.
