By Jennifer TzesesWhether you're jetting off to a ceremony along the shores of some exotic island or you're honeymooning beyond the confines of your three neighboring states, chances are, you'll be traveling by airplane in the near future.
I'm probably the only person I know who actually enjoys the experience. I love those airport news shops where I load up on candy and trashy mags. Airports are also my excuse to binge on foods that I normally forbid myself (McDonald's breakfast, anyone?). Not to mention the flight itself, which always gives me a little thrill on takeoff and then provides hours of uninterrupted r and r (what's not to love?). However, there is one thing I do not like about flying -- the effect it has on my skin. The second I take my seat, my skin starts to tighten in protest and by the time I land you might as well call me "leather face."
Dr. Gervaise Gerstner, M.D., associate clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical School in NYC, says it's not just my imagination. "There's a lack of moisture in the cabin, which causes your skin to become dry from head to toe." To combat this unwelcome issue, Gerstner recommends we moisturize, moisturize, moisturize before, during, and after the flight. Here, three products to keep your skin supple and glowy upon arrival.
Before boarding
Prep your skin with an ultra creamy moisturizer. The heavier the formula the better it will combat dryness. Kiehl's Rosa Arctica, $60, is a little bit of bliss in a bottle. It's super rich and feels like velvet on your skin.
In Flight
Midway through your flight, your skin will need a moisture boost. A hydrating facial mist is the reinvigorating spritz your face needs to look and feel better instantly. Try Jurlique Lavender Hydrating Mist, $31 (it's 3.3 ounces, so you can carry it on board). Spray it as often as you want; it'll add moisture thanks to ingredients like marshmallow and lavender oil.
Upon Landing
Now's the time to re-apply your sunblock, particularly if your destination is a sun-drenched one. Try L'Oreal Paris Sublime Sun Liquid Silk Sunshield for Face SPF 50+, $10.99. It's super sheer, yet provides powerful, broad-spectrum sun protection. And since it absorbs instantly you can wear your makeup over it and no one will know it's there.

I'm smiling that you enjoy the thrill of the takeoff--it's sublime! But it does wreak havoc with your skin. These are good suggestions. I read that Cindy Crawford puts conditioner in her hair, pulls it back in a pony tails, and rinses when she reaches her destination.

I am so glad we're getting on a boat rather than a plane!
