Have you noticed shimmery eyeshadow isn't sitting quite as smooth on you lately? As we age, the light-reflecting particles begin to highlight loose skin around our eyes. But there is a fix... Go for makeup like silky matte shadows instead. Unlike shimmer, which sits on top of your skin, matte makeup blends into your lids effortlessly and camouflages imperfections. It also adds natural-looking definition to your eyes. Now dust a medium taupe shade over the eyelid to recess the area. So with just this change from shimmer to matte, you reduce the appearance of wrinkles and puffiness. Now let's see what we can achieve with the second anti-aging make up tool -- eyeliner.

Un-defined eyes can make you look tired, particularly when our skin has developed a few fine lines. Liner is the best way to open up and define your eyes. Make sure your line is thick enough to be visible when your eyes are open; otherwise, you lose the eye-defining benefit of wearing liner. Add further eye definition with brows and lashes. Using tiny strokes, brush a matching brow powder into the brows, then curl your lashes to open up your eyes and let more light in.

Now, on to lips. Steer clear of using a colored lip liner -- we know, this can feel like a big change, but it's the single most important anti-aging makeup step, so try it for a week and see what you think. Instead line with one of the new no-color wax liners; they won't migrate into fine lines. A moisturizing lipstick makes lips look full and healthy. Add a dot of gloss on top and you'll get shine that looks fresh and youthful. It looks soft and pretty, and very current.

great tips. I like shimmer but I have to use it sparingly. I use a clear lip liner to keep my lipstick in place.

I better keep wearing my shimmer on my eyes while I still can for the next few years.

As a woman at 37, I have already made several of these changes. Changing to clear lip liner is a MUST!

Good tips for younger (lucky) people. Those of us who are a bit older know (or should know) this. Thanks.

These were some good tips to keep in mind. I don't think they were necessarily for when you get older. The colorless wax liner can be used at any age and I also believe that when you continuously moisturize your lips and apply a wrinkle-filling cream around them you don't even have to use the colorless wax liners. I also like using both matte and shimmery eyeshadows. If you have to camouflage imperfections on your eyelids, use a make-up primer with silicon. It fills in any imperfections (fine lines/wrinkles) and allows your eye make-up to glide effortless onto your lids.
