Works on light yellow tones

This product is a light lilac color so it tones only light yellow tones and therefore doesn't work on very golden hair. So if you're trying to tone hair that's gone a little bit yellow then this will work pretty well. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes and it will condition in addition to toning. But if your hair...read more has really deep golden tones, whether from incomplete lightening or from mineral deposits, this will not do a darn thing. It just does not have enough pigment to do much of anything at all. Instead I suggest trying Joico Color Endure purple shampoo and conditioner, which is a deep violet color and when left on the hair for 5 minutes apiece, will definitely tone out overly golden tones. However, don't leave it on too long or you could end up with an overly ashy result or even with purple hair (which you can get rid of with a few shampoos with a clarifying formula). Color Endure is sulfate free and gentle and it smells nice too. But the effects are temporary so you might want to look into doing a toner, such as Redken Shades EQ in 9V, which has a violet base. This will last 15-20 shampoos as long as you use a sulfate free shampoo. It's available online and is mixed with the SEQ processing solution. Leave it on anywhere from a minute or two up to 5. Rinse as soon as you see that the golden tones have been neutralized. This will give you much longer lasting results than any shampoo, which only lasts until the next shampoo. Same is true of the Pureology treatment. I like my regular shampoo (Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum) and I find toning shampoos very drying so a toner what I prefer. When my hair becomes too golden because of the limestone content in the Florida water, I use SEQ and it leaves my hair soft and glossy with no damage whatsoever. It's a salon product that delivers salon quality results. Much better than any shampoo or toning conditioner in my book.
