Cream eye shadow is something I generally avoid. But there's been so much hype about Maybelline's "Color Tattoo" that I picked a few up at my local drugstore. They're incredible! I got them in "Edgy Emerald" to enhance my hazel/green eyes and "Bad to the Bronze" (just a great color to have). This is a creamy-gel texture which is easy to work with. I used my fingers when applying to eye and then smoothed the edges and a bit of shadow under my bottom lashes with a brush. They are shadows with sheen, but not to the point where they can't be worn anywhere. The color is true and really stays put--I didn't want to give it a twenty-four hour test, but it stayed in place a good eighteen hours for me before I removed my makeup. There was no creasing or caking whatsoever. It does dry very quickly after application, so be sure you have shadow where you want it before it sets (that's not a criticism--that's part of the reason it lasts so long). I'm more than impressed and am going to collect "Painted Purple," "Audacious Asphalt," and "Tough as Taupe" (just for now). Eyeliner
I love that there is finally, at long last, an eyeliner of this type available at the drug store price point. This has highly pigmented and intense color, and I love the formula. I apply it with an angled eyeliner brush and found that you can get a really beautiful line. I like this eyeliner a lot. I know its a shadow but with the right brush and the right steady hand, you can use it as an eyeliner as well, which is exactly what I did. I think I have 6 of these now. Gold, Taupe, Orange, White, Green, and Pomegranate. I LOVE these. I usually apply them as a base for other colors. I use a brush to lay the product down then blend out with my finger. These last all day, don't crease, and really add to sheer eyeshadow and give added depth to any eyeshadow. I love using the white under pinks as it really makes them pop. The taupe is a bit off for my skin tone and unlike some people, I can not wear it just by itself. It does make a nice base for taupes that I can wear. The green is not what I consider Emerald green, but it really adds depth to my favorite eyeshadow color - green! The gold works really well under natural colors, browns, golds, bronzes. The orange is great for summery yellow/orange/red looks which really compliment blue/green eyes. I love wearing reddish/burgundy colors as well, and find myself grabbing for the pomegranate punk color often. I have not gone for the purple because it is hard to work with, but I may give it a go. I know MUF makes a nice bright purple, and I might just spend the extra money on that one instead. I would love to get the rest of the colors, but they always seem to be out at the store - that tells me just how much people love them. I hope they come out with many more colors - matte and shimmer. Some nude colors, a matte white, maybe different versions of blue and green. These are smooth, creamy, and work well. I would highly recommend these as they are at a good price. Bad To The Bronze - So Good!
Just bought this on deep discount at a local store and it is GORGEOUS. A soft shimmery bronze that I applied over a simple swipe of a powder foundation base. I simply swiped this shadow on with my finger and blended it. It has a powder-creme consistency and it applied super quick and easy. The result ~ a soft wash of color with a glowy, dewy sheen. No glitter or crazy fallout, no mess, no fuss. Probably best to just use your fingers with this one, unless you're going for precise shading/contouring. I know this is going to be one of my go-to eyeshadows for a quick, pretty eye look. UPDATE: Noticed two downsides to this shadow - it dries so fast there is almost no chance to play with it or blend it. A good or bad thing, depending on what look you're going for. Also, due to its' 24 Hr formula, it dries a bit "hard" - you can't budge the stuff once it's on! - but this also makes it almost impossible to apply and blend any eyeliner on top. You'll end up with an awful mess due to the shimmer of the shadow - it's almost like you have to scrape the eyeliner to blend it on top of this shadow. So if you like to use a liner on top of your shadow, be sure to commit! I Want More.
When these eyeshadows came out, I was extremely skeptical of them. For starters, I have extremely oily skin and have had issues in the past with cream shadows and even powders creasing on me quite a bit. Also, I didn’t see how it would be possible to get such bright color with a thin layer of cream shadow. But this line has incredible reviews so I just had to give it a try. I was completely blown away. The colors are richly pigmented, which means one think layer and you’re good to go. With my skin, I have found that I can only wear these without primer if I wear them very thin...but with primer they last all day! I was and still am extremely impressed by the quality of this line-it goes far above and beyond the typical drugstore cream shadows I have experimented with. The price is pretty much unbelievable not just for the quality, but also for how much product you get in each jar. Although the release of the metallic line is a step in the right direction, I truly would love to see this line expand explosively. These shadows are high quality enough to impress a makeup junkie, and simple enough to apply for a complete beginner. Therefore, I would recommend them to just about anyone. Bad to The Bronze is a great stand-alone color that I sweep on on days I don’t have much time for makeup. The reflective quality in the cream plays off my eyes natural contours, making the look complete even though it was totally effortless. I am so excited to see what is next for this line. I would love to see Maybelline come out a palette collection of some sort for this product. Awesome
I have just two but they are soo useful. The first is Bad to the Bronze which is a neutral brown with warm shimmer so i think most people can pull it off. The second is Barely Branded and its part of Maybellines metalic collection. Its a creamy beight with a frosted metalic finish. These are both so versatile, you can wear alone just sweep the color on your lid and your ready to go or wear these as a base to add dimension with other eyeshadows. Slightly Disappointed, Not What I Expected
So from the commercial I figured that this was going to be a heavily pigmented longwear liner...it's not. It swipes on sheer, then with a little work the color glides on but it's a CREAM that does get a bit cakey. I saw on other review that people use it as eyeliner or as an eyeshadow base....and yes, I can see it as that now...because it doesn't really budge too much. I just didn't think that was the purpose of this shadow...i'd rather use a really good primer and then choose my favorite shadow and put it on. Not sure what the point of this is...other than the other purposes mentioned here. Love Them! Needs more colors options though!
These pots of cream eyeshadow are better than department store rivals that are twice the price and the pigmentation is astonishing. I bought "bad to the bronze", a coppery metallic cream that is great for the eyelid's crease and as an all over lid-color for darker skin tones. I purchsed the purple shade for a costume and my eyes looked like someone had painted them, the color was astonishingly bright and pigmented. I fell asleep with my makeup on and woke up the next morning and it had not budged. I also have it in a silvery slate color that I'm not as wild about. I thought it would make a good highlighter but it looks too frosty. I would have given these a 10 but their color range is a bit odd and I suggest more shimmery nuetrals for everyday use. I like these
Other cream shadows are better but you can't beat the drugstore price! This products lost a few stars because it is a little sticky(which makes it hard to blend), it makes me eyeshadow go patchy if I apply thickly enough for the color to show up, and it still does crease if I don't apply powder products over it and even if I use a primer. That being said I have EXTREMELY oily eyelids so these may work just fine on their own for other people. However, I do like these as a base for eyeshadow if I apply them thinly. They help a more powdery less pigmented shadow to stick(preventing fallout)and show up better. And If I want to wear one as an all over wash I still can but I have to set it with my translucent face powder. I do still find that these apply a little patchy. Also, they are very inconsistent. While one shade is pigmented the next is sheer. However I still use these a lot. It helps it you work with it quickly before it sets and only apply a little at a time in a very thin layer. Great Primer
I have been using the Maybelline Color Tattoo's for quite a while now. The colors are so vibrant and work great for an all over color as well as in creases. It applies easily with just your finger and blends out easily with a brush. I personally like to use mine (in Barely Branded) as an eyelid primer. It is such a neutral color, even for my very fair skin and by using it as a primer helps the shadow that I put over it to stay put and not fall out.
