Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 Reviews

Wonderful...if the shades fit you!
Smashbox, like other brands are hoping onto the trend to integrate skin care and cosmetics in the form of BB creams which were popular originally in Asia before making its way to the western world. What Smashbox promises with this product is that it hydrates, controls oil, gives you a soft and smooth airbrush finish, protects it with spf 35, and can be used under make up. First off, it's okay as a moisturizer. For people with oilier or normal skin, this might be adequate, but for drier skin I would supplement it with a light moisturizer underneath. As far as controlling oil, it's not bad either. I don't have a huge oily problem so I honestly can't say but it doesn't cause me to get oilier so that's good. The spf 35 is a huge plus, considering that it's higher than most BB creams and tinted moisturizers in terms of sun protection. Like almost any product with spf, it tends to leave a slight shine on your face, but that can be alleviated with a little translucent powder. Using this as a base for makeup is wonderful. I normally do not like the Smashbox Photo Finish primers--the original formula breaks me out and the others do not hold my makeup well. What I LOVE about this BB cream as a base is that it literally smoothes over pores for an airbrush finish that makes my foundation glide on. It does a great job at holding my makeup throughout the day as well. Unlike the original photo finish primer, this hasn't been breaking me out. My biggest beef with this product is two things--hence the removal of two stars. First, the product is expensive for a little tube. Even if you use a little, the tube is still much smaller than other BB creams a bit more expensive than others too. My second problem is the color. There are four shades--fair, light, medium and dark. For those lucky people who fit the shade closely, this will be wonderful for them. However, I am like most people where I am in between shades. Light is too light, and medium is too dark for me. I've even tried mixing colors and it doesn't work out very well. Even with a small dab of medium mixed with light, the deeper shade seems to over power it. Therefore, I just use the light as a base for my make up because I have to use a lighter shade of foundation for my face to match my naturally lighter neck. I'm only disappointed with the shading due to the face that Smashbox usually runs a little darker with their foundations, so I really hoped that light was going to be a decent match. So I do hope that Smashbox will release a few more in between colors because so far the sales of this product has been quite successful in the short time it has been out. There are a few tweaks that Smashbox can do with its formula to make it the best BB cream ever, but so far it is high on the list in comparison with other creams. — 1 year, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 19 of 20 people said helpful

Just OK
I tried this because I was looking for an all-in-one product to cut down my beauty routine. The sales lady talked it up as the best after I was looking at NARS, Laura Mercier and Halo, saying that the BB was better than a tinted moisturizer because it controls oil, adds moisture and provides some coverage. I put it on with nothing else and it looked like I didn't even have anything on! There was no coverage at all and I didn't like the texture. It costs like $45 for a small 1 oz. tube. I definitely won't be using this again! — 11 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 4 people said helpful

Went back to buy!
I was given a sample of this at Sephora along with the Josie Maran tinted moisturizer. I had tried Garnier and Clinique BB creams plus Nars tinted moisturizer in the past. The Smashbox BB cream is perfect in my eyes. It provides a bit of coverage which i need and makes my skin look nice. Also keeps skin hydrated. I'm happy I went back to purchase. Makes skin so soft and pretty! — 11 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 8 of 8 people said helpful

Just so so
Not really impressed at all. Not great coverage and didn't stay on well at all. I returned it a few weeks later — 2 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 1 people said helpful

The worst!!!
I bought this after an article recommended this. The only good thing i found about this was that it leaves a matte finish unlike other bb creams i have used and the spf 35 in it. Other bb creams tends to leave a dewy look. This product gave me an orange complexion and the product goes on super thick that makes it hard to apply and blend well. I was left with blotchy skin and flaky skin. It did not hydrate at all!!! I still had to put lotion on top of it afterwards even though the description of this was to hydrate and prime. I will definitely return this and just go back to my Garnier bb cream. Such a disappointment especially since i paid $40 for this. I suggest you save your money and buy something less expensive. — 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Good but not the best from Smashbox
I love the shine control and foundation from smashbox but the BB cream feels weird. I have oily, dry combination skin, depending on where on my face so I need a product that can remedy that. I am willing to pay the right price for it but this is not one of them. It is an alright light foundation in my opinion but it is not what I expect of a BB cream. It does not moisturize as much as I expected it to. On a positive note though, the tints smashbox offer is a wonderful idea. Maybe in the future there will be improvements. — 4 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

The best I've tried
This is by far the best BB cream I've tried. However, I think the biggest drawback is the price. I won't shell out $40 for a bb cream. Way too expensive, imo. This has the best coverage of any of them. It's almost more like a medium coverage foundation. The vendor rep told me it goes on better with a primer and I agree that it does. Although I thought the point of a bb cream was that you didn't need a primer because it's built in. I don't want to pay $40 for bb cream then another $40 for a primer. If you want coverage in your BB cream I'd go with this one if you can afford it. — 8 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 4 people said helpful

Love It
Got a sample of this with another Smashbox purchase...just loved it. It looked very natural and did not fade away at the end of the day. Also love the fact that I did not have to use a ton of moisturizer or primer underneath...just a touch of moisture on my drier areas and done, saves me time in the morning. Also love the 35 spf. The only thing keeping me from purchasing is the price (which is why I gave it 9 out of 10)! It's pretty steep when there are so many other bb's out there...but I will be coughing up the price unless I can find something better. — 8 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 3 people said helpful

awesome
this bb cream is a life saver,it has become my every day go to 'quick fix' :),its super convenient, and a little goes a long way , been using my bottle for 3 months now, so the price is well worth it, besides what won't we pay for gorgeous glowing skin that looks 'au naturelle' I use the dark , and my shade has shifted somewhat lighter since my post baby melasma cleared (thank goodness),yet it still blends in and i get great compliments on my skin. the best part is that my skin gets to breath underneath this, cos i apply this and set with my mac mineralize natural skin finish,& viola....great skin! my skin has a great texture,no breakouts or blotchiness since i started using this. also another great thing is that i never have to retouch during the day , it balances out the oily and dry zones on my face without over drying , although i must say that i apply my ester lauder daywear lotion underneath, just for a little extra bit of moisture ( am addicted to the stuff ...lol) it gives good coverage,no need for primer, and is great under foundation,if u want the want maximum coverage effect, i don't like that though, cos am an avid believer in the 'less is more' philosophy overall, great buy :) — 10 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 6 of 8 people said helpful
