Why are there 2 categories of this....
Just bought this and I love how it creates waves unlike the smaller 3 barrel irons I have used before. Those ones creates more of a crimp than a wave. Something I didn't want and that's why I got this. The only things I don't like about this are that it's heavy and my arms get tired after waving 3 sections. Also the temperature is not hot enough to set my fine hair. I have to use a lot of hairspra...read morey to make it hold. Like it but not for me.

Don't waste your money!
It's not the worst thing I've ever used, but it's close. It's basically a big crimper, so if that's what you are looking for then buy it, but if not save your dollars. I even tried to use it on other types of hair and it's still a pitiful crimper. OK, *wow*. I have straight, fairly fine, shoulder length blonde highlighted/colored hair with some layers. I really like this jumbo 3-barrel curling iron, it absolutely gives me the look of a loose "tousled" perm without the damage (and cost!) of a perm. My hair isn't known to hold a curl, however when I use this appliance the waves stay well into the second day. It is a bit heavy (ok, this is a m...read moreassive curling iron ha ha), and it took a bit of practice so that it didn't leave a "line" at the top. Use it with the barrel's facing up. When I'm in a hurry it works pretty well to grab sections of my hair and use this; when I want much fuller loose and airy waves I section my hair and curl smaller sections (bottom, middle, top). The volume added to my hair is *incredible*!! It looks for all the world as if I'd just gotten a nice, quality, airy perm. Like not love
I bought this tool just for fun, I don't really know how to use it to make an actual hairstyle. Every time I use it, I think I look funny! Yet again, revlon is great
I have had this for a few years now and still have so much fun with the bouncy waves it creates. It doesn't take long.. About half the amount of time it takes me to straighten me hair! Looks natural. Makes hair extra shiny. I don't remember how much I bought it for but I know it wasn't expensive. Great for on a bad hair day!
Some days I wake up late for work, have no time, and humidity seems like it's at 99%. That's when I break this thing out. It gives me natural looking waves, and because I can put a ton of hair in each clamp, my whole head can be done in 10 minutes (as opposed to my curling iron which would seriously take me nearly an hour). The clamp is huge and if you purposely grab random sections and go on diff...read moreerent angles you can 1) get done quickly and 2) get a natural day at the beach look. Better than the smaller barrel ones..
I used to have the regular ceramic 3-barrel weaver which basically crimped my hair 80s style. This one is a little better and, while it doesn't exactly give me beach waves, it doesn't crimp it tightly either. It's a bit heavy but you get used to that fairly quickly.
