NYX Cosmetics NYX Eyeshadow Base Eye Shadow Primer Reviews

Wonderful Primer/Color Optimizer!
Most NYX products are incredible, and this is one of them. This is an industrial-strength concealer, thicker than most brands, available in three finishes (white, white pearl, and flesh-toned color). This was created to increase the wear of shadows and maximize the intensity of pigments. It does that very well--colors become much more vibrant! I especially like the pearl finish; it adds a great glow. — 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

So-So
I have the plain white pot, but I reckon the other two are similar in consistency and texture (but differing in effects). With my medium skin, vibrant colors often don't show up very well, or very true--regardless of how pigmented the shadow is. Pinks look more like reds, and yellows barely even show up, etc. So I opted for a white base. I have love for NYX products, particularly their eye make up, so I was thrilled to find a cheap white base. This is supposed to make shadows 1000x more vibrant. I wouldn't say it makes it THAT vibrant, especially on my medium skin tone, but for light or fair skin, they can definitely expect to see better results. This cream is quite thick and kind of hard to put on. I've had better results using my finger to get more of an even coverage, rather than using a brush which tends to make it a little more streaky. The one thing that drove me CRAZY was that this has the tendency to crease on me within a couple minutes, even with a thin layer. So one thing that has helped me was to immediately use setting powder over this on my eyes to set and "dry" it. In addition, having that extra powder makes the bright pigmented shadow much easier to spread and blend (powder on powder blends better). I have to pack on a bit of shadow to get the color I want, but even so it's not nearly as vibrant as the packaging--though much more vibrant than not using this white base. Therefore, this white base does do its job to make shadows more vibrant, but there is definitely a trick to this for some people like myself with more oily-prone lids (even after I swipe toner over my lids prior to using this to remove oil). The more pigment I pack onto this base, the less likely it creases on me. I'm kind of eager to try the white pearl base next. Although the base is not the best, you do get good results considering the cheap price you pay for a large pot of primer. — 1 year, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 1 people said helpful

Review subject
The primer was a little hard to apply, due to how thick it was. But, I have used primer for over 12 years now and this would be (in my opinion) an okay primer. — 1 year, 10 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 3 people said helpful

great!
I have the Pearl one and I am so impressed! For $6.99- honestly, what do you have to waste? It makes shadows soooo much more vibrant and just overall ehnances colors. Plus, I love to use it as a highlight for my inner corner. — 1 year, 8 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 6 of 7 people said helpful

thick but good
Too thick for my liking, but it is good for the price. It does what it claims, makes shadows last and pop. I will repurchase this. I like the pearl one! — 1 year, 10 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Not So Much...
After hearing from the makeup gurus on youtube that a lid primer is necessary to increase staying powder of eyeshadows, I decided to try it. I bought this on Amazon, amazingly cheap, and got it in the skin tone color. I find it to be very thick and actually somewhat greasy - when I went to wash it off my finger, the water beaded up over it! I used it sparingly and it's thicker, slightly drier consistency made for a lot of pulling on my eyelids as I applied it, something I DID NOT appreciate. I was hoping for a smooth, dry surface that covers and conceals some of my llittle eyelid freckles with a matte base, but that's not at all what I got. My freckles were still visible underneath - I didn't want to spackle it on - and my shadow actually creased within about four hours. Luckily, it wasn't that expensive and so I'm not crying over it, but it just seems like a waste of time and effort for very little results. — 4 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 2 people said helpful

Pretty good
Overall this primer works pretty well. It held the color to my eyelid and it made the colors more intense. My only complaint was that the product felt a little too thick. — 2 years, 4 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Nice for the price
I have used Mac, urban decay, and benefit-- this is a great competitor. I hated Mac, thought urban decay was acceptable and liked benefit, but for the price, I think I'm sticking with this. Using a light touch, my shadow stays on, remains vibrant, and best of all, my shadow blends to perfection. — 5 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 4 people said helpful

money saving
i bought it on amazon on an impulse buy, i kept hearing everyone saying i needed an eyeshadow base but being broke as it is, i figured i'd search it on amazon. i found the nyx eyeshadow base in the flesh tone. it works really well and will last you a very long time in my opinion. you dont even need a lot to put on your eyelids. a little goes a very loong way. :) a recommendation is to put the jumbo eye pencil in milk over it so that the eyeshadow can pop out more. but overall its a great base, it doesnt crease — 11 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful

I love it!
I have 2 of the natural color eyeshadow base and they work great! I carry one in my makeup bag and one at home! It is thick but better than the primer potion by Urban decay. — 1 year, 1 month agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 3 people said helpful
