Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder Reviews

Wonderful powder!
volta (516 reviews)As I mentioned in a couple other recent reviews, it has taken me a few years to rediscover Smashbox and the products because I wasn't too keen on them originally. Halo is a WONDERFUL loose powder if you want a lot of coverage, but you don't want to have that dry, powdery feeling on your skin. This has moisture particles IN the powder to hydrate your skin all day. Halo is one of the best powders if you want a bit of coverage, but don't want to wear liquid foundation, OR if you wear liquid foundation underneath and Halo on top for super FULL coverage. I like the shades options that Halo has. There is fair, light, light/medium, medium, medium/dark, and dark. Personally, I think Smashbox tends to run a bit darker in their makeup than other brands, so people who have very pale, alabaster/porcelain skin may think that the fair might be too dark. Light is a great shade for me, but I noticed that the light/medium is better for more olive skin because it runs much more yellow. The price of $59 may seem like a bunch to people, but I like that you do get a large product AND a kabuki brush. Also, I like that you get to twist the top to shave the product for new, fresh powder every single time. This powder doesn't look too powdery on my skin either. Yes, it's a powder and just about all powders will leave a powdery finish, but this give a tolerable finish that doesn't look cakey or powdery, especially if you buff it in well. What I don't like about this product is how MESSY it can become! Be careful with how much you twist the top to shave the product because the powder can get all over the container. Also, the container is very bulky. It's not very travel-friendly because of its size. Although this a great investment for Smashbox fans, unless you use powder often, I personally would try something a little more friendly to your wallet. — 1 month, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Great powder
Kikikins625 (457 reviews)I have tried quite a few different powders and more often than not I do not like them because they end up just making my skin look dry but I had no such problem with this powder! It is my new fav, I love the way it lays on my skin and how it makes my skin look. Don't think I will ever try another powder! — 2 years, 6 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 7 people said helpful

Calling a powder hydrating
sweettpea29 (205 reviews)Most powders are drying or make your skin look super dry. However, Halo doesn't leave my skin with that dry or dull look to it. This is like a mini miracle. Even though there is a limited amount of colors, it matches my skin. I have a hard time matching my skin with the BE powder. I wear Smashbox's Sheer Tint underneath this and a light dusting of Halo and I never look like I have caked on makeup. I still wear moisturizer underneath because there is no SPF in this. This si the only reason I gave Halo 9 stars. We ladies no matter what color need SPF. — 2 years, 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Really great
leelu (354 reviews)Even though the price tag is very steep, I really love this and the price is well deserved. I have dry skin, and this gives me luminous (not cakey) coverage. I do not prefer the brush it comes with... I like BE's full kabuki brush, but this is not a review on the brush. I love the finely milled powder... not too much at first.. you can always make more. Unlike some other mineral powders, this doesn't make my face itch. Bonus! I am an in-between shade, so I have to touch up some spots, but other than that the texture and longevity of this hydrating miracle is great. — 3 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 4 people said helpful

Why...?
MLC512 (272 reviews)I've used this 3 - 4 different times and each time, I've experienced breakouts like you couldn't imagine. Everywhere I used this, a zit farm grew! Very bad! Looks beautiful when it's first applied, but within a few hours it's faded and made my skin look chalky. Also, if you have oily skin - this won't be your skins friend what so ever. Given the cost - there's MUCH BETTER options out there. — 10 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 3 people said helpful

i've tried better
mamalicious (196 reviews)the cool thing about this powder is that it is very hyrdrating. however, the colors are very yellow, it looks cakey, and it feels heavy on the face. plus, for $60 i can but 2 bare escentuals foundations (which are my favorite anyway). don't waste your money. — 10 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Wonderful Finishing Powder!
vcaser (6 reviews)I've been using this stuff every day for about a year and a half. It's the one product I don't begrudge paying 60-plus dollars for because I'm only on my second container! It lasts well. Another reviewer said they've replaced theirs 6 or 7 times, not real sure what's going on there?? The travel sized kabuki brush has been perfectly fine, though the little handle gets cracked. This will NOT hide much in the way of pore size or discoloration in my experience; that's not what it's for anyway. It is an excellent finishing powder that's actually good for your skin. I have oily skin and have no trouble using it. It sets my foundation so well that I hardly ever have to touch up with pressed powder, just use a blotting paper around noon. Worth every penny. — 1 month, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful

Totally non- drying
yetunde (6 reviews)I usually stay away from powders cause of the drying effect it has on my skin, but I recently purchased this to wear over my tinted moisturizer for that 'low coverage' look,at the end of the day,my face was well hydrated,no dry patches, and no oiliness either,am totally sold on this ,would have given it more stars, but for one con in my opinion,I wished it added more of a glow to my face — 1 month, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Best Powder around
queenb82 (16 reviews)I love this powder. The colors are great and it feels great on my skin. I also like the packaging and this product lasts for a very long time. I use it everyday and only purchase 6 or 7 a year. I would recommend using a different brush because the one included in the package is too small and not very good quality — 3 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 2 people said helpful

The best I've found for dry skin
ginger_c (34 reviews)This is the best powder I have found for my dry skin. Wait a few minutes after applying your moisturizer because it will darken if your skin is too moist. I will buy this again because for once I believe I am getting what I have paid for. — 4 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful
