Harsh on Skin, Hair Remained

Chemical burn

Love/Hate Relationship
I have PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and as a result, have excessive hair. I love the idea of applying a cream and rinsing off, leaving behind clean, soft skin, but there are many issues with this product. First of all, it is not "goof-proof." Yes, maybe I should not have been "experimenting" with hair removal so young without a parent, but the risk of burn shouldn't exist. Period. Additionally, you can use this product one day, with perfect results and no discomfort, and the next time your skin will tingle, burn or become red and itchy afterwards. It's a bit unpredictable at times. It's also incredibly smelly and runny. I have tried their thicker products (e.g. Brazilian Clay Shower product) and do like these better and have had no issues, but I think that Nair should improve their technology on this basic item that has been around forever. I used to use the Sally Hansen version that was thick, MUCH better smelling and more gently. Believe it or not, it also had a better price point and yummy fragrances. Cheap and works, but stinky and not gentle
I use a razor to shave my legs, but for my arms I use hair remover lotion or wax because I don't like razor shaving stubble on my arms. And when I am on budget, I usually buy this Nair's hair remover. Yes, the best part of this product is the price! I usually pay only $5+ for a big 9oz bottle. The directions suggest to leave the lotion on for about 3 min, but I usually keep for 4-5 min for my hair...read more. The worst part - this stuff smells really really bad. At least, it passes my most important test - it removes my hair (both thick and thin). After wiping off the lotion, my skin sometimes get itchy and irritated. Thus, I will never ever use this one on sensitive parts of my body like bikini area. Also, it takes some time to rinse off the slimy stuff completely. Despite containing baby oil, a follow-up with a good body oil/lotion/butter is a must for me. Shaving is definitely faster to get rid of unwanted body hair. Even though this hair removing lotion is certainly not at all flawless, I have been using this one for years due to the good price. Sucker!

Use At Your Own Risk
Okay so I used to use this a lot-- it worked at getting my hair off for a good amount of time & never irritated my skin. I also didn't really mind that it stinks a lot. So why did I stop using it? Well I started going to beauty school & learned this stuff is really bad for your skin. Think about it: your hair & skin are made up of the same thing basically & this contains very strong chemicals mean...read moret to dissolve hair. Of course, some people -- me included-- never have a problem but you can actually develop a problem out of nowhere. If you insist on using this, make sure you test it on a small area of your body before a full application like the bottle advises. I actually met a lady who developed severe discoloration on areas she used Nair one day out of the blue after years of using this product without incident. It's okay
This removes a good percentage of my hair, but really left so much behind, I needed another method to remove the rest. I am fairly hairy so it is possible that someone with a finer grade of hair may find success with this product, but it didn't work well enough for me and my hair removal needs. Works great for me
I use Nair on my legs and my girlie parts and I'm very pleased with the results. Waxing just isn't for me and neither is a hairy body. This stuff is always in my bathroom closet. I've used this product quite a few times now and I'm not sure how I feel about it. First of all I must say that I have really thick and curly (coarse) hair. So someone with thinner hair would probably have a different experience with this product. Anyways, when applying this to my legs I have to use a very thick layer for it to work well, which means I have to use about half the bottle. Not good. ...read moreThen I have to leave it on for the max amount of time (about 10 min.) and deal with the odor (which, after awhile, doesn't really bother me.) Then, after waiting the 10 minutes, I have to SCRUB the cream off with a wash rag (not recommened, according to the directions) and rinse. My legs are somewhat sensitive, so they itch until I put lotion on. HOWEVER, my legs feel SO soft afer I use it and the hair is less visible than if I were to just shave. And I'm able to go 2 days without being self-conscious about the hair on my legs. So again . . . really . . . undecided.
