First off, I have only used Trader Joe's Spa Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil, which has identical ingredients and formulation as the Desert Essence TC Face Wash. If you have oily skin, this is a fairly gentle face wash since it has so many carrier oils in it. If you have dry skin, be aware that tea tree oil reduces your oil production and can be incredibly drying. Tea tree oil also has antibacterial properties that combat acne. While I had clear skin through my teenage years, I've come to battle adult acne since I moved to the South. Tea tree oil is the only thing that has gotten it under control. Great for oily skin! NOT for dry skin!
It makes me sad to see all of the bad reviews of this face wash written by people who have dry skin. That's like complaining that a shampoo made for curly hair doesn't help with your stick straight hair. Anyways, I use this in the humid summer and after sweaty work-outs. It is too drying for me to use in the winter, but I find that I can't use just one face wash year round. The tea tree leaves my skin feeling tingly and refreshed and helps with the mild acne I tend to develop when the mercury rises. I also pair this with the Desert Essence tea tree oil stick for on the spot zit blasting. If you have dry or combo skin I'd recommend something else. For dry skin I like Body Shops Vitamin E Cream Cleanser and for combo Origins makes a fabulous frothy face wash. WAY too harsh
I have combination skin and found this cleanser way too drying for my face. It made my face sting and lift it dry and tight. I also thought the scent was too strong for a face product. Amazing product!
I've used this product for about a year and I'm very happy with it. It may be a bit drying, though. Well, I generally apply the product onto my skin for about ten seconds, then wash it off. It's too drying otherwise. I got the idea from acne[DOT]com's acne treatment routine. People sometimes comment on my skin and how smooth it is. One person even said it looked airbrushed, and proceeded to touch it. It was kinda funny for me. I used to have a good amount acne but now it's mostly under control. There can be at most five visible pimples at a time on my face now, after I started using this product. The thing I love about this face wash is its ability to kick oil's butt straight away. I love the property of that and it amazes my friend, who in her curiosity tried it before. Basically, I'd recommend castile soap for problematic skin like the one I described. Just be sure you have a moisturizer if it's too drying. wonderful
I love desert essence. I have been using this product on and off for about 5 years now. It is just great, all natural, the tea tree oil in thier product is not only beneficial to oily skin but it gives a really even looking tone to dry or combination skin. I have dry patches and it surprisingly moisturizes those areas while cleansing my more oily areas around my tea zone. I would definetly advice purchasing the thoroughly clean face lotion as well however, especially if you are first trying out this product, it can overdry your skin. Uncertain at first, but then great!
I have always struggled with bad skin. I have oily skin that is sensitive and can be dry and oily at the same time if a product is too harsh for my skin. The first week of using this my face was very flushed. It didn't itch or break out, just red. There was also a day or two when the skin on my cheeks felt a little leathery. I don't know why I didn't stop. I guess I didn't feel it was that bad and I wanted to give it a little more time. After a week the redness went from my face, but I had some red spots on the back of my hands below my thumbs where the soap would gather when washing. It has been over a month now and my skin is clear and soft. I can feel a pimple coming sometimes, but after a wash or two, it already starts going away. I am very happy with this product. ONLY 4 OILY SKIN!!!!
Warning if you have dry skin, step away from the soap. I used it after seeing how my friend's oily acne skin became beautiful in literally 3 days. I tried it and though my skin felt fresh afterwards, 3 days later my entire face was in a rash. I believe that either from being very sensitive or having dry skin caused me to have an allergic reaction or dry out too much, which leads me to break out. AMAZING!!
I love the fact that it is all natural. It really does amazing things for my skin too-I had mild acne on my forehead-it is not completely gone, but it is considerably less (plus I have not felt my skin so smooth without bumps on my forehead for SO long). Also, it REALLY cleans my skin, and it leaves it looking really luminescent! I noticed that it leaves my skin looking like I just had it in a mask!
