N.Y.C. New York Color Ultra Moist LipWear Lipstick Reviews

Great Steal
I was looking for a cheap true red lipstick just to try with my skin tone. I've never worn any bright red lipstick before and wanted to for an upcoming wedding I'm attending. I knew I wanted to buy it in a long-lasting formulation (CG outlast, Revlon colorstay, Maybelline superstay, etc.), but didn't want to fork over $10+ unless I knew it would look good on me. So when I came across NY Color's Retro Red for $0.99 (not sure why everyone else here is paying $2.29?), I decided to buy it. Wow! These are the creamiest, longest lasting lipsticks ever (aside from the 16-24 hr ones I mentioned above). I bought this tube just to try a few times and then toss. But after realizing the amazing quality, I'm definitely keeping it and buying more! To be honest, I've never been a big fan of NYC. It just always looked cheap and low quality (even though I LOVE Wet n Wild stuff). After getting the blush sticks and now this lipstick, I'm starting to realize I shouldn't judge a brand by its prices or packaging. The one thing I wish for them to improve is their color selection. Most of the shades are boring and not unique in the slightest. None of the colors popped at me. Retro Red was one of the only ones I really liked. Even though the packaging is kind of a pain, I really like the bullet-like shape of the cap. It's kind of sleek and sexy. I have the NYC lipstick in Lilac. It is an ok product. I like the color, and I like the price (1.99), but it turned out WAY more sheer and sparkly than I thought it would be; not the color I wanted at all. It's ok though, the sparklyness makes my lips look fuller. These lipsticks probably work best when paired over another lipstick. I would probably buy them again, though not in this color, because the price allows me to experiment with colors I won't normally wear. On the lips, it feels rather creamy, but not the kind of thing you'd want to get in your mouth. Like if you painted your lips with really thin, watery plasticine. But that might just be me, because I don't like the feel of a lot of lip products. In the 1st few days of opening this, I was rather crayon-like and hard to get on the lips...you kinda have to draw it on. So I heated it with a blowdrier for 5 seconds before each use, and within 3 days it had turned soft and creamy, not like a cheap lipstick anymore! I dunno if that just happens, or if it was the blowdrying... anyways, i'd probably buy again, just not that color. — 1 year, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 1 people said helpful

Looking to save $$$?
I don't want to sacrifice my skin care or body care products, but for lipstick I don't mind. NYC has at least 2-3 colors that I like. Besides, whoever thought that I could get a lipstic for less then $1.29? With this price I can even leave in my car! A regular cleanser/facial wash can easily wash it away. — 4 years, 11 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 3 people said helpful

Great Affordable Lipstick
I just love this lipstick formula! I can't believe these are only $0.99 each! I have probably every shade they make but I DO have a favorite, and for a reason - Sheer Red. This is a great "steal" find as a dupe for a "splurge" lipstick from Clinique. Clinique makes a shade called "Angel Red" and its been popular for years. This shade from NYC is about as identical as it gets and is $0.99 compared to $15.00. I also think its a great introduction to red lipstick for anyone who has been a little leery of trying a red lipstick. The color is going to be good for basically anyone and its sheer enough not to scream "I'm wearing red lipstick!". Its also excellent on the cheeks as a cream blush, just make sure your skin isn't too dry/too matte before using it or, mix a teeny drop of your mositurizer with it when you apply. This is an excellent lipstick, great shade and at a reasonable price. I highly recommend and definitely will repurchase! — 7 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful

Good lipstick
With some gloss, it made it look more pretty, in my opinion — 5 years, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 4 people said helpful

Surprisingly not bad
It's only a dollar, and yet this lipstick comes with good color selection, good pigmentation, and it's not drying. The packaging is very cheap, and the lipstick doesn't retract all the way, so it's not easy to put the cap back quickly. This one is better than their $2 long wearing lipsticks. — 3 years, 6 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 4 people said helpful

An Everyday, Regular Lipstick
Decent lipstick, but long lasting, it's not. I've found this come off on beverages and glasses so it's not very appealing to your date to see that scarlet stain leftover from your lips that had just came off. However, this is one of the better products of NYC as the colors are more appealing that their other lipsticks they offer and they come in a variety of finishes. I don't use lipstick regularly, only for certain occasions so if you're my type, this might be your best bet for wearing it to a quick run somewhere or making an appearance, but like I said - not dinner or eating, this will fade. I also suggest using a lipliner to definte your lips with these as they can feather just as bit, but otherwise a pretty good product. I don't see anything exciting, outstanding, or overachieving about this but it's certainly a perfect choice for your day to day routine so you aren't reaching for your more expensive alternatives frequently that you adore so much. — 5 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 8 people said helpful

Ultra moist? No.
This is an average lipstick that I'll only give a good rating to because it costs less than a dollar. It has a wide range of shades (Cafe is my favorite), and works well layered with other lipsticks. It's not at all moisturizing, though. It definitely needs to be topped with gloss to prevent major lipstick dry-out. I still think the price makes this appealing, and if I were still in high school, I'd probably own every shade. — 4 years, 4 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Great, just not in public.
Well, I find that this lipstick is great to test out new colors like bright red and burgandy, it is not great to wear out. It does come off on drinking glasses and it gets on my teeth. But thanks to this dollar lipstick, I now know which shades look good on me and which don't, so for that purpose I would rate them a 7. — 2 years, 6 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Good
For the price you can really experiment with different shades. It doesnt last all day, but how many lipsticks do? it does transfer to glasses but then, most lipsticks to that too, so for a fun new color change, I'd recommend this line! Oh, and it feels moist on the lips not dry like some price-ier brands! — 4 years, 7 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Not sure.
I don't have good experiences with this lipstick, I think it smudges too much. — 1 year agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful
