Shu Uemura Sets the Standard for Lash Curling
I began curling my lashes at a young age. They are short and sparse, and curling adds the "oomph" I need to garner attention. An eyelash curler is an eyelash curler is an eyelash curler, right? They are akin to torture devices which pull skin and delicate lashes and leave your eyes watering, ruining all of the perfectly applied makeup which you just completed. WRONG! Not when it comes to a "Shu Uemura" genuine eyelash curler. It is ergonomically designed and sculpted to wrap around the eyelid with total comfort (in this case, one size does indeed seem to fit all). The hinge itself is engineered to provide the correct amount of pressure to crimp lashes, not destroy them. It is available at the main Shu Uemura site for $20.00, a bit pricey to be sure, but I find it more of a must-have than a splurge unless you are blessed with plentiful lashes (they are not being sold at Sephora right now and can be found only at Ulta stores, not online at Ulta). Be careful--there is one pad in the curler and an additional one in the box. Do not discard the additional one by mistake. I've been lucky to find less costly versions at ebay and Amazon, but buyer beware: The "real thing" opens and closes with ease and takes little effort to work with. It will never pinch or hurt in any way. The metal is heavy and covers your entire eyelid. "Shu Uemura" will be stamped on the tool itself as well as the rubber pads. I've been fortunate to gather a few at ebay for as little as $2.19; I took advantage of the price and gave them as gifts after squirreling away several for myself. The shipping time may be long as they may come from Japan, but the wait is well worth it. A few more tips: You may want to heat your curler with a blow dryer in order to give it more staying power (take care here not to burn lids). The pads do not last long (all good things must come to an end). Look for genuine replacement pads at the aforementioned sites. And never curl lashes which have already been coated with mascara. Despite the gentleness with which a Shu Uemura curler operates, you can pluck eyelashes which may never grow back--yikes! — 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 5 people said helpful

You have to try to believe it!
I have skimpy eyelash, but SHU UEMURA EYELASH CURLER can make some difference. It curls most of my eyelash just one try. So why I don't give the perfect 10? The rubber wears out quick, and I have to buy the whole thing again and again. I wish they sell just rubber parts. — 5 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 13 of 13 people said helpful

Wow!
Whoah Nellie! This Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler really does live up to its hype. My skepticism has faded and I'm very happy with my purchase! It grabs all the lashes sans pinching and curls them into seductive loveliness. The augmented price tag is so worth it. — 3 years, 6 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 9 of 9 people said helpful

No eyelash curler can beat this this!
I've used so much different eyelash curlers over the years. I've been using this brand for the last six months or so and have NEVER been happier with a lash curler. It doesn't grab my eyelid and I get a beautiful curl with about 8 seconds of pressure. I've got a second one still in the box as "back-up". I will NEVER buy another brand. This one is worth the price, despite being hard to find. Love it! — 1 year, 10 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 8 of 8 people said helpful

No pinching
Oh I really love this eyelash curler! I have tried so many other eyelash curlers and I never quite get the same curl. I will say that I have tried the Sonia Kashuk and Sally Hansen curlers and I have never been able to get the same amount of curl. I do have to say that the curl stays even after mascara is applied. The mascara does help keep the curl longer. If you can, heat your eyelash curler with a blow dryer and you can get the curl to stay up to two times longer. (Please be very careful with this. You will need to make sure that the curler is cool enough before you place it near your eye. In order to test if the curler is cool enough, test it on the back of your hand.) Tricks like this can help your lashes stand out! — 1 year, 6 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 6 of 6 people said helpful

Worth the hype
So, I had heard about this eyelash curler for a long time, and I couldn't imagine what would make one curler so much better than another. I recently broke down and purchased it, giving in to my curiosity. Wow! Before, I thought little pinches here and there were part of curling my lashes. However, I think it's the shape of the tool. Ever since I purchased this curler, I haven't pinched my eyelid once. I love. It gives great curl, and really makes my eyes pop with mascara. I don't say this about many products, but this one is worth all the hype. I recommend giving it a try! — 1 year, 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 4 people said helpful

Doesn't live up to the hype.. just okay
I really truly wanted to fall in love with this eyelash curler I had read so many rave reviews about and that makeup artists supposedly die for. This, however, isn't the case. I've been using it for about 3 months now and it does nothing miraculous. Not much different than any other curler I've used. What I find is that the key to a curler working well is heating it with hot water or a hairdryer first. This works weather it's a $6 curler or $25 curler. — 11 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 1 people said helpful

I have more lashes because of this curler!
I had no idea how much damage I was doing to my laahes every day when I curled them! I thought it was crazy to spend so much money on an eye lash curler. Especially when I could buy a perfectly good one at the drug store for under $10. But I kept reading all the raves and broke down and ordered a "Shu". WOW! Before I ordered it I was changing the little black rubber thing in another brand of curler and realized there is a slit in the middle of it where the metal piece meets the black thing (sorry I don't know the proper names to the parts) and it was FULL of my eyelashes! I had been curling my lashes for twenty plus years and never noticed this. The first thing I noticed about the Shu is that there is no slit in the black rubber insert, so there's no where to break off and trap lashes. It's a domed hump curve to it so it actually puts a smooth curl to the lashes instead of just putting a sharp bend in them. It makes a big difference in the way my lashes look and makes my eyes look much more open, which is the whole point to curling our lashes! I noticed in the first few days that I wasn't loosing as many lashes, again I think because of the shape of it and that it doesn't break off the lashes when it curls them. After a few months I saw that my lashes were thicker! I actually have more lashes now because I'm not loosing them every time I curl them! So check the slit in your lash curler and see if it's full of lashes and if it is you definately need to switch. Even if it's not, the Shu provides a BETTER curl and that alone is worth the price. — 3 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Another Ordinary Curler
I'm not sure what all the hype is about this curler. It works like most other lash curlers and if I'm not careful it will pinch my skin. — 4 years, 1 month agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 2 people said helpful
