Lush Hair Hennas Reviews

A pain in the ... hair
Lush's hair hennas are not for the impatient. My hair should have been easy to henna because it's cut into a very short pixie. My first go was, however, a disaster. My first mistake was that I burned the henna, which dramatically reduces its effectiveness. So the next two hours of noxious smell followed by gnarly clean up yielded no results. My second try was much better. I'm glad, because I really didn't want to go back to environment-damaging, animal-torturing boxed dye, but I hate my natural color and can't afford salon color. If you want to try this, I strongly recommend checking out Lush's online forum, which discusses these hennas at length. And be sure to follow the directions! — 3 years, 12 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 10 of 17 people said helpful

Pretty good henna
This is a pretty pricey and time intensive henna. It comes in a block that must be cut up or shredded first. Once you get it on your hair I found that it was pretty average as far as hair hennas go. I like the caca rouge for soft red highlights, however it isn't a dramatic henna coloring. I have gotten better results with other, cheaper hennas when I want an obvious color difference. I'm a fan of Lush, but this isn't one of my regular purchases. — 4 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 10 people said helpful

It's ok!
I don't remember the color but it was a deep red and I expected a deep red result, but what I got was a reddish blond to my then honey blond hair. So I didn't really get the results I was promised by the sales associate. Not a bad product but not a great one either. — 2 years, 5 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 6 people said helpful

A little tricky, but worth it!
I dyed my hair for years. Every color you can imagine. So by the time I decided to give my hair a break it was shot. Once I began to let it grow out I realized that I was starting to go gray! I was convinced that I was going to have to start dying again, but then the girls at LUSH recommended that I try Caca Brun to match my dark brown hair. After the initial hassle of learning to use it I fell in love. It was like putting a hot mud mask on my hair and scalp. The color was a little lighter than my own but it was so soft and shiny and it felt healthy! On my next experiment with it I decided to mix brun and noir together and the result was perfect. I highly recommend this to anyone I know who wants to rid themselves of gray and not destroy their hair. A little tip: throw the block in the freezer overnight and then shred it with the fine side of a cheese grater. No lumps, dissolves easily with hot water. — 1 year, 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 11 of 14 people said helpful

Pretty, but a pain in the rear
I used the caca marron on my sister-in-law who has dark brown and chestnut colored hair. The marron of the henna brought out and added beautiful red highlights and resulted in a multi-faceted highlighted appearance. In effect, my sis-in-law looked beautiful after the messy, stinky, and complicated process was over. I have never used other henna dyes, so I can't compare its effectiveness to cheaper alternatives, but my relative was happy with the results and the dollar amount she paid for them. The process, however, was less than spectacular and a huge pain. The dye was a bit clumpy (next time we are adding more water) but it was the consistency of brownie batter, the recommended thickness Lush suggests on their website and instruction packet. The 'brownie batter', however, created lumps that rolled off my inlaws head, resulting in a huge clumpy mess on the floor. I was constantly picking up clumps of dung-looking (which makes sense, given that it is made out of dung) material off the floor and shoving it back on her head. The smell was awful and stank up the entire upper floor of my house, causing my children to complain, and the dye stains floors and skin, so be careful and follow the directions--use gloves and cover floors with newspaper! Despite these faults, my sis-in-law said she would defintiely do it again as the red highlights were so spectacular. — 1 year, 4 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 6 people said helpful

Depends
Henna would produce beautiful color IF your natural hair is dark brown, otherwise your hair will turn red red. — 1 year, 5 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 5 people said helpful

Henna is o.k.
I agree about henna being a good conditioner, except my experience with it was different. The 1st time I used it my hair was soft and managable. When I tried to touch my hair up it came out hard and frizzy. I admit this was years and years ago. Has it changed much? — 2 years, 1 month agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 7 people said helpful

The best haircolor for the natural girl.
I have been using Lush for 2 years now and it compares to no other compared to all other hennas out there. It is a lot to get it together but once you get it down its no problem and worth the hassle. I guess its the cocoa butter that they put in them that just makes your hair so soft after you apply it and the colors are very true and beautiful. I am overseas now and having withdrawals of not being able to color my hair with them. I have naturally curly 3c/4a type african american hair and its as dry as can be. All other hennas exacerbated that problem but not Lush. It leave your hair soft and manageable. There is nothing that you have to add in order to do anything else (amla, lemon juice, etc.) I also have a lot of hair (past bra strap length) and one cube does it for me so it last for six applications which is wonderful and worth the money. — 3 years, 5 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 11 of 13 people said helpful

I adore this stuff!!!
I absolutely love it!!! It is a bit messy, but well worth the effort. I have used this for about 6 years. My hair is so much healthier. And it is much cheaper than traditional coloring for the amount you get! It wears well. I get loads of compliments when I am just out and about. Total strangers want to know where I get my hair color! Go get it girls, it's amazing!!!! — 3 years, 6 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 6 people said helpful

Messy the first time, but Divine results!
Learning how to use this does involve a bit of trial and error. I shave the bar with a sharp knife...and mix with hot but not boiling water to mix into a paste about the texture of yugurt. The smell is very organic. Though I didn't dislike it at all! Once the henna has thoroughly dried on all the hair, about 6 hours for me, You can rinse. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Takes me about 30 minutes to really find it is all out. My hair has never been softer, and the color is delicious. In the sunlight, people always comment about my color. I use the 2 parts of the marron and 1 part of the rouge..and the color is a lovely auburn! Well worth the mess the first time using it. Stick with it and teach yourself how to mix and apply..you will never be sorry. — 4 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 6 people said helpful
