Laura Mercier Lip Stain Reviews

And You Call This a Stain, Laura?
I purchased this in "Mocha" because the majority of products from this line have out-exceeded my expectations. Not so with Laura Mercier's "Lip Stain." It wasn't really a stain at all--just a hint of color. And the formula was drying to my lips. The company says that the "satin, balmy finish leaves the look of effortless polish and understated sophistication." "UNDERSTATED" is the operative word here: Understated color, understated moisture. And a total waste of $20.00! — 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 1 people said helpful

Has good and bad points
This lip stain has its good and bad. Laura Mercier has good products as a whole so I was expecting more from this product. For one, it's application can be messy unless you use a lip brush. Not everyone wants to tote a lip brush along with them. It is also a rather dry texture, drier than other stains out there. The stain also made my lips feel dry like I needed a balm on top of this. The color was nice but didn't wear or fade evenly. It did do better when mixed with a balm. The result was a nice, sheer color wash on my lips. Maybe future reformulations, if any, can be made to be less drying. — 2 years, 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful

Stain?
Just a gloss in a pot, nothing more. No stain. — 1 year, 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 4 people said helpful

Pretty and Pouty
I have to admit; I was suckered into buying this due to a fantastic review in Lucky magazine. It told me that I'd look like a chic French girl. I loved that. And you know what, it's not bad. Not bad at all. I tried the sugar blossom shade and the stain is a very pretty, sheer color that you can easily layer to make deeper but is a tad drying; it won't "stick" to anything but bare lips, though, so apply a balm or gloss after appplying. It does make your lips look full and sort of velvety and matte; perfect for a soft kind of retro look. As far as the French girl goes... I don't know, but at least my lips are pretty! — 4 years, 4 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 3 people said helpful

Good and Bad
Lets start with the good: The colors are gorgeous and the quantity of the product is great for it's price. I think it paid $20 for mine. Because I have darker lips, I bought the one in Mulberry and it does actually look very nice and natural, especially when I just use my ring finger to apply it instead of with a lip brush. I also like this because I can lightly use it as a cheek stain on my days where I'm running late. The negative is that on my lips, it doesn't last very long. I would assume that since Laura Mercier (and company) calls it a "stain", it would actually be a "stain" and last longer than a couple of hours. It wears off pretty quickly, and I really don't think that there's a whole lot of variety in the color choices. I used Mulberry on my cousin who has just a tad bit lighter skin than I do, but same color lips, and it just totally looked wrong on her. I don't know, maybe that's not their fault, but for $20 a pop, I wish it would last longer. — 1 year, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Insanely awesome!!
I am in love. It works on everyone!! I have mulberry which depending on skin color could be a red lip or a reddy-brown color. It is very build-able but doesn't stain lips for days — 1 year, 7 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 1 people said helpful

Rich Color, Long Lasting Stay
I love this lip tint in the red. Typically I'll warm it up by rubbing my index finger on top of the lip stuff for a few minutes to make it softer and easier to apply. The red is a gorgeous shade and pretty dramatic in color. You can dab it on lightly, layer for more color, cover with gloss to soften it, or just put it on by itself. It's creamy and I really like it. But sometimes it can be slightly inconvenient due to the fact that you either need to use your finger (then wash it well afterwards) or use a lip brush. — 1 year, 10 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 1 people said helpful

This is more like a long wearing lip stick
I happen to be using this "lip stain", purchased at Sephora, now. I would NOT rate it as the worst by any means, It goes on smooth (using a lip brush), does not pull my lips at all like the article says, and it will last a few hours as long as you don't lick your lips a lot or eat. However, I would not call it a lip stain, as a lip stain actually stains your lips and leaves the color "stained" on your lips all day. It is more like a long wearing lip stick. I actually like it better than some of the lip stains I've used that go on and dry to a chalky, bone dry feeling, that you then have to apply a clear shine over the top every hour or so, just to get some feeling of moisture, or your entire mouth feels chalky! I would rate this higher if it actually "stained" my lips, which it does not. Hope this helps. — 2 years, 5 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

drying
I found this to be drying and would tranfer to anything, did not stay put. Looked too artificial and hard to apply, not to mention pricey. — 3 years, 7 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

eh
Just ok in my eyes, a bit drying. I have the mocha and the color is nice and stays but I have to keep applying a clear gloss to keep the shine and keep my lips from drying — 4 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful
