Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant Reviews

Twenty-Hour Miracle!
My wonderful, beloved mother rarely splurged on herself; in general, my parents put any "extra" funds in the family budget toward my sister and me and what we wanted or needed (we weren't spoiled but just treated with extreme kindness). When my mom did buy cosmetics for herself, she often gravitated toward Estee Lauder or Elizabeth Arden. I remember having a rough case of pneumonia in middle school, followed by a cold. My nose and lips could not possibly have peeled any more than they did. My mom went downtown to a department store to purchase Arden's "Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant." I remember being delightfully surprised by her effort and concern when she returned home. Within just a few days of using this potion, my lips and nose were greatly relieved. And then I learned what a multi-tasker it is. Formulated more than eighty years ago by Elizabeth Arden herself, the most plentiful ingredient is Petrolatum, which works as a balm and also seals moisture in skin. A surprising additive is Salicylic Acid, which exfoliates to allow new cells to grow and flourish. Also included are Vitamin E (popular is many moisturizers) and Lanolin. Apply liberally to dry, flaky lips, facial skin, neck, décolleté, hands, cuticles, elbows, knees, and feet for silky-soft skin. It is helpful to have on hand at all times, as it works to repair minor cuts and abrasions. It is ultra-comforting if you've had too much sun (for shame--use sunscreen!) or if your legs are chafed after shaving. Professional makeup artists use this to highlight models' cheekbones, eyes, and lips. It isn't exactly a cream; it is more substantive than a regular cream. And perhaps that's another reason why it works overtime to keep my soft all over. I didn't appreciate my being able to purchase this product until I spoke with a friend in Dublin. A woman in her neighborhood makes "faux Eight Hour Cream," as it cannot be purchased online there. I'm glad I can get it whenever I need it, which is constantly! — 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 6 people said helpful

Effective Multi Use Product but Expensive for What it is
We all hear so, so much about Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream that it is difficult not to get wrapped up in the buzz that surrounds this "cult" product. I recently purchased the unscented version for the winter months when my lips are extra chapped, my cuticles are extra dry and seasonal colds and allergies leave my nose raw and peeling. For all of these uses, I absolutely love this product. You can use this on dry elbows, heels and cuticles. You can even use this to set your eyebrows in place (who would have thought?!). Being sick, I have been using this all around my dry, flaky and sore nose. This is helpful when other lotions and such would just burn. It is misleading that this is called a "cream" because it is more of a gel or salve. The texture is in no way creamy. A little bit of this goes a long way so one tube will last a very long time. Still, this is an expensive product and the only active ingredient listed is petroleum. I do find this to be less greasy and slippery than regular 'ol Vaseline. My skin absorbs this more easily than Vaseline too. This is a high end petroleum product, somewhat similar to Smith's Rosebud Salve. It is not the same as Vaseline, but it also isn't anything particularly innovative. Nonetheless, it works. It is nice to use, it is conveniently packaged in a tube (thank goodness!) so you do not have to dip your finger into it. If you are willing to pay the price for this, you will certainly use it in many ways and find it effective. If you don't want to spend the money, get a tub of Vaseline and you will most likely still be satisfied. Me, I will use my tube and as long as my budget allows, when the time comes I will repurchase this multi use product. — 5 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

It was good enough to use on her horses!!!!
I will save my money and use vaseline. This is a good product but please vaseline works just as well! When I worked at Macy's we had this strange lady that would call constantly asking if we had it in and she would buy everything we had, she would come in all wrapped up almost mummy like, her hubby said she uses 10 tubes at least a month! You meet very strange people when you work in cosmetics!! — 4 years, 11 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 8 people said helpful

Orange Grease
Unless you are buying this on Elizabeth Arden's website for her Gifts With Purchase, I don't get the hype about this product. It's orange, greasy and smells bad. I can't pet my cat with this handcreame on, and it rubs off on my sheets when I wear it bed. Vaseline has a softer consistancy and does the job just as well. — 2 years, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 4 people said helpful

Heals dry lips and chapped skin
Love this stuff. I use it on my lips almost every morning. I put it on right after washing my face and by the time I'm done with my makeup it has softened the little flakes on my lips and I just rub them softly with a washcloth and they're left soft and moisturized. I use it whenever my lips feel super dry and even on the skin around my nose which gets red and chapped when I have a cold. It has a high level of petrolatum which is the main work-horse in this product. Love the smell, too. — 2 years, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 7 people said helpful

Great for Even Sensitive Skin
Most creams cause rashes to appear on my skin. This calms any problems I have, and there's hardly a place on my body where I don't put it. It helps dryness everywhere! I highly recommend this classic cream! — 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

It´s ok
I understand why the new version of this product is "fragrance free", it smells horrible! I've used it on my lips and it works great but i wouldn't dare to use it on my face, is too thick and that smell does not help at all. — 10 months, 1 week agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 2 people said helpful

HORRIBLE!!!
I CANNOT BELIVE ALL THE GOOD REVIEWS HERE!!! this is the WORST cream (whatever the darn things it need to be for) the smell is so strong and disgusting!!! and i bought it for the raving reviews it had regarding using it as a lip treatment. now i am a very high end skin care junkie (looove la prairie lol) and at first my snobish skincare brain felt like weird wanting to buy an elizabeth arden product as its not really a "high end brand" (sorry for all you guys that like this brand) but i know that there are times where a great product comes from not the most high end brand so i just bought this cream. i put it on at night on my lips and gosh i wanted to throw up from the smell! and it was so oily on the lips and it felt like it was just sitting on the lips and thats it! listin girls (and guys) if you are like me looking for the GREATEST EVER TREATMENT FOR THE LIPS then just follow what i do and i promise you that you will have an amazing, soft, beautiful, luscious lips!!! so after years of experimenting and trying ALL the brands out there here is what i do...... i use the "SKIN CEUTICALS-antioxidant lip repair",this is a anti aging "serum" treatment for the lips and what it does is that it is a penatrating multi vitamin and anti oxidant serum that hydrates to the deepist layers of the lips and it plumps my lips really nice.(read my review on it here at "total beauty") NIGHT TIME...... first off ,every other night i love to exfoliate my lips(this gives your lips the smoooth texture cause it sweeps the dead skin cells away and that means your lipstick will go on smooooth and beautiful) so what i use for that is the "LUSH- lip scrub" and remember after you do the scrub your lips will be very dry so you MUST put a cream on top of them!!! after the exfoliation i apply the "SKIN CEUTICALS-antioxidant lip repair" serum and then wait 5 min and then....... i apply the AMAZING "darphin age defying lip balm" now this has got to be the most hydrating-heavy duty lip balm i ever had. it is an intense lip balm that i use for night time use only. i just use this as a nightime beauty lip treatment, guys this is really amazing stuf!!! so thats it girls, that is what i do: "lush-lip scrub", every other day "skin ceauticals-antioxidant lip repair",as a serum underneath a lip balm "darphin age defying lip balm" as a nightly lip tratment(after the "SC" lip serum) DAYTIME USE:(OPTIONAL)....... "cle de peau-lip treatment"-,as a lip balm in the morning/daytime(i use this as a "daytime" balm becouse its light, not gloosy, not waxy balm and it gives an amazing feel to the lips, now this would be your "carry around lip balm" as you can smooth it on the lips whenever you feel you need to) have fun guys and if you dont find somthing from these products and you dont know where to order them from then just send me a message and write me what country your from and ill be happy to tell you where to order it from online. sarai from israel:-) — 1 year, 7 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 5 people said helpful

I love it, but it is different
They advertise this is a cream, but more of a balm combination. I found this at my local Marshall's Store for $7.99 and heard all about the wonders of this cream for a lot of people. It usually is about $22 and so at $7.99 how could I go wrong. Well, it is absolutely incredible. It works on everything from a complete facial hydration product to the soles of your feet. I have been using it on every part of my body....lips, elbows, neck, feet, face....i could go on and on....It is great stuff....the smell is a little on the intrusive side, but for the benefits, not much of an issue. I have found a new "wonder balm" and I love it....went back and bought 3 more tubes to give to my daugher (who has severe eczema) and my mother. It is addictive for lip care....it lasts forever on your lips and unlike most balms which I used to love (Nivea, Carrots, Burts Bees, etc) it lasts and lasts without reapplication. — 2 years, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 4 people said helpful

WONDERFUL!!!
this is a great product like all the Eight Hour line from EA/ This sounds really strange, but in the winter my ears dry out really bad...to the point of cracking and bleeding. This is the ONLY thing that I can use that stops it! The lady above who says she will save her money and buy vasaline...no way! This works WAY better!!! — 2 years, 4 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful
