Editor Review

Rated a 6.5

Flaws in wearability and packaging dial down the appeal of Estee Lauder's Pure Color Eye Shadow, which otherwise lives up to its name by depositing strongly pigmented color where you swipe it. Apply carefully as the shadow doesn't blend easily and tends to stay put. While this means hardly any creasing, color can still fade quite a bit by the end of the day. The sleek, small compact comes with a mirror and sponge applicator for touch-ups, but the clasp can be difficult to open.

Nice shadow if you're going for the subtle look

Having been spoiled with MAC and UD eyeshadows, I find this brand of eyeshadow a bit lacking in color pay-off. The texture is smooth, glides on easily and blends with a breeze so it isn't a bad eyeshadow in and of itself. It's great if you're going for a subtle look, especially for daytime and the neutral shades are good... to use as an all over eyelid color base. May 13, 2009, 12:30 am

    Nice Shadow

    by DizzyVinyl (3 reviews)
This is a very smooth, nice wearing eyeshdow, but as others mentioned, the color could be brighter. MAC or Lancome has a brighter shadow if you are looking for MORE color or if you have a darker skin tone. To TSB- this product will be very similar to Revlon, Almay and Clinique Products as they are all Estee Lauder Cosme...tics. Clinique Eyeshadow is less bright than Estee if you want more muted shades. Very Pretty Shadow

I have this in Mocha Cup and I really think this shadow is a classic! It's not too shimmery and not too matte. I apply it in AM with a brush because the sponge applicator is way too small to use unless in a pinch. The color lasts pretty much all day without reapplying. If you want more pop you can just apply more. April 23, 2009, 4:35 pm

    Pretty shadow

    by DiPick (11 reviews)
I love the texture, subtle shimmer, and pretty colors. I am a fair-skinned blonde with blue-green eyes. I usually use either Ivory Box or Pale Moon as a base for the eye area, then top it off with either Mocha Cup or Silver Moon. On me, the Mocha Cup creates a striking smokey eye look. My results got even better after r...ecently investing in a high-quality eyeshadow brush - made a huge difference. February 3, 2008, 9:59 am

    Pretty Shade

    by Cindyrella (9 reviews)
Gilded Goddess is an LE shadow from the Summer 2007 Bronze Goddess collection. I'm quite impressed with this shadow. It's a very complex shade, mostly peachy with some gold. It looks different in different light. Soft and blendabel, good pigmentation. Packaging is in a small compact w/ a mirror. Perfect for a summer bronzey... look--duh! At $17.50, it's not as cheap as MAC, not as expensive as BB. Overall, very happy with it. For reference, C30, warm, blue eyes, blonde. December 1, 2007, 6:09 pm

    Great matte basic

    by TSBrrr (9 reviews)
I use "Mink" for the outer corners of my eyes. This is so deep and rich! It tends to make a mess, but it definitely stays put where I want it to. It's my base so darker colors, like green or purple show up really deeply. Revlon wet/dry shadow used to work very similar to this, but they don't make a brown as rich... as the mink. Pretty much happy with this! November 5, 2007, 1:31 pm

    Nice, but no MAC

    by Jaimegirl (20 reviews)
Nice eyeshadow: comes in lots of pretty shades, the texture is good and it lasts well. However, for three dollars less you can get MAC eyeshadow which has even better color payoff. Not to mention about ten times as many colors to choose from. October 29, 2007, 10:00 pm

    Very nice for natural looks

This is very nice lasting shadow that is pigmented and great for natural, classic looks. It does not irritate sensitive skin, wear off, or crease. The colors are very easy to apply and blend. It is a bit expensive. April 18, 2009, 10:14 am

    Poorly pigmented

I have this shadow in Peach. While the color brightens up my eyes, it takes about three layers to even show up on my fair skin. The sponge applicator this shadow comes with is too tiny for all but the smallest hands, but overall I like the sleek, crystal package. I also like that this shadow wears all day without creasing o...r migrating. March 1, 2009, 4:14 pm

    Pretty colors

    by venice (5 reviews)
Just bought 4 of these colors and they all go on smoothly, and stay where they're put. I wanted all matte shades and although they seem to have a bit of a sheen, it's not even noticed, they just brighten up the eye, especially Sand Box for me. August 3, 2008, 4:43 am
