Lush Jungle Conditioner

While the strong smell might be nice for some (think patchouli) the inability to detangle makes this a terrible conditioner. High-maintenance how-to warning: You have to soak the bar in water, rub between palms, spread into hair and rinse out after a minute. Even after all that, hair was left a knotted mess. It contains cocoa butter, but the fresh avocado, fig and banana (natural conditioners) don't seem to add any moisture.

Underrated product that needs extra work on your part to really love it

April 30, 2008, 9:35 pm I used to work for Lush, and before that, I was a customer for several years (so that makes about 6 years altogether, give or take). I remember when Jungle came out. The hardcore customers (Lushies) were excited, because for years they were asking for a solid conditioner to go along with the solid shampoos that Lush sold. Okay, on with the review. This is one of those typical pain in the butt products Lush is known for, where you have to put in a bit of effort to really "get" it. Once you get the hang of it, you realize how versatile this product is. So it's solid. How do you use it? There are various ways that customers use it, and the sales associate may show you another way. If you stroke it directly on your hair, you're not going to think you have enough conditioning, and will keep on adding more conditioner, only to realize after washing your hair that it's become a gross greasy mess. Here's how I use it, and here's how I demoed it to customers: pinch off a bit of Jungle, about the size of your thumbnail. Put it between the palms of your hands and rub vigourously until the product is emulsified and makes a creamy white paste. Then apply it to damp hair, concentrating on the ends. Leave it on as long as you like (it is a conditioner that doesn't contain silicones so I leave it in for the duration of my shower). Rinse out. Lovely soft hair! I have typical stick straight, slightly coarse, fine Asian hair, and I love this product. I also have used it for shaving and sometimes as a lotion if my hands got dry in the store. You can also take a little bit (just a little) and use it as a pomade. I would also take a piece and mix it with a salt or sugar scrub for extra moisturizing properties. That's one of the things about Lush products: you end up finding other uses for them. I love the scent, too. There is no patchouli oil in this product. It smells very green and fresh, but not in a dirty hippie way. Usually, I like to buy a chunk (as soft of a batch as I can get) and put it in my own container and mash/whip it with a fork. Then it's a lot easier to use when you're in a rush. Sadly, this product has gotten very expensive so it's not something I would buy anymore. But if you travel or are open to trying new thngs, give it a try. I recommend going to a Lush store and requesting a sample of Jungle versus buying it online. April 30, 2008, 9:35 pm

    Love the Jungle!

February 20, 2008, 12:38 am This was my first try of a solid conditioner and I am extremely pleased at how wonderfully it works on my short, slightly curly hair. It took me a few tries to figure out the best way to use it - but after I did, I was hooked on the Jungle from LUSH! I adore most Lush products as it is, and finding a conditioner that not only leaves my hair soft, shiny & silky and it smells heavenly all day long - but that's also filled with natural ingredients such as avocados and many others (the list is quite long) makes it a must have for me! It is a bit pricey, but well worth it in my opinion! I don't think Jungle works the same for everyone! Depends where you buy it - because if the slice you get is from a freshly made batch - you'll get wonderful results, but if it's been sitting on the shelf for a while, like any other product it will not work it's magic in the best possible way (so if you're purchasing it at a Lush store - look at the label, it says when the batch was made - or ask the store assistant, they always know and are very helpful! They may even cut you a piece from a freshly made batch, if they have it and you request it!). I give Jungle a straight 10 for all it's luscious goodness, for being a wonderfully eco-friendly conditioner full of fruits, for rich moisturization leaving hair soft, shiny & scented like a million bucks! I rinsed for over 2 minutes the 2nd time I used it. It does smell nice and since I have a chunk of it, I've been using it to shave my legs. It's great for that and leaves my skin soft. Works great as a shaving lotion

    by Ashely407 (3 reviews)
I love jungle. I bought it to travel with (not a liquid!) and while I'm not completely sold on it as a conditioner (I wouldn't use it everyday, good for travel) I LOVE it as a shaving lotion. My legs never feels a smooth as when I use jungle. May 13, 2008, 10:51 am

    Melt your Jungle!!

    by tropicgal (21 reviews)
I can't use Lush Jungle in its bar form like many of you. It leaves my hair a mess with pieces of Jungle in it. Well the secret is to put 2 parts Jungle bar to 1 part water in a tall glass in the microwave for about 10 seconds. I love the smell, and the smooth version leaves my dry thick hair, soft and tame! Love the scent

    by pareltje (5 reviews)
I LOVE how this smells, earthy, grassy, just lovely. I do agree with a lot of the reviewers here that it is difficult to use. It didn't seem to do much for my hair as to conditioning, but I just love how it smells. Too bad it didn't work for me :( April 18, 2008, 2:33 am

It has a smell that takes some getting used to. It definitely leaves your hair soft and shiny. However, it clumps in your hair and sticks and is hard to wash out. great smelling unique conditioner

    by wickedplum777 (24 reviews)
I will agree with the other reviewers that Jungle takes some getting used to, but after a few days you'll have soft, well conditioned hair. I really like its scent (a little patchouli and lots of fruit.) This bar leaves my hair perfectly conditioned-not too greasy and not too dry. It also gives my hair nice shine. Great!

    by Rhowan (24 reviews)
This is difficult to get used to using BUT once you get it down, it conditions very well, makes your hair smell great and leaves my curly hair defrizzed! I am going to give it a lower than a 10 because of how hard it is to get used to using. March 13, 2008, 6:45 pm
