Editor Review

Rated a 5

The second of four steps in Matrix's curl-enhancing product line uses moisturizing glycerin and slinky silicones to detangle hair. Thick, coarse hair might not get de-frizzed -- particularly because of ingredients like thickening potato starch and drying fragrance -- and could use the line's Extra Intense Conditioner. Otherwise, it does an okay job defining curls. Beware: It also smells vaguely watermelon-ish.

    great & smells good too

    by luckylectra (8 reviews)
I have thin-to-medium thickness naturally curly hair. If it gets too long, the part near the roots straightens/waves itself out from the weight of the curl. I havent attempt to wear my hair curly without product since I knew better, but based on the pictures I've seen, it has the tendancy to get a little frizzy. I end...ed up trying this several years ago as part of a kit with smaller sizes of the shampoo, conditioner, some cream & the hairspray. I fell in love with the line since the first use. This product makes hair shiny, bouncy, and silky with DEFINED, NON FRIZZY curls. Currently, I use it with a dry-scalp anti-dandruf shampoo, but I love it all the same. I recommend the line to all curly/frizzy haired friends. March 30, 2008, 11:51 am

    Good

    by pittkelsey (3 reviews)
I have very curly hair, and this conditioner did a good job moisturizing and keeping the curl in. I loved the scent. However, the shampoo produced build-up, so it is good for short term use while switching products. March 1, 2008, 10:25 pm

    ehhhh

    by erinlee13 (12 reviews)
i used this a couple of times, didn't do much for my fine, curly/wavy hair at all. i'm not a fan of the potato starch products, didn't read the ingredients until after i'd tried it. i like my hair to separate and flow, this conditioner made it kind of clumpy and it felt drier. Unimpressive

    by AnnaLeigh (4 reviews)
I've been using curl life shampoo and conditioner now for a couple of weeks and so far they've been some of the worst products I've ever tried for my curly hair. The scent is weird--like cucumber and watermelon with something else that I can't identify--but the main problem is the conditioner. Even after leaving it on sever...al minutes as it recommends, my hair is left dry and tangled. I don't think I'll be finishing the bottles. August 18, 2009, 7:38 am

    Pretty good

    by beckyroy (27 reviews)
I like the way the conditioner doesn't weigh my hair down, but it could use a little bit more moisturizer. I switched conditioners twice a week to rehydrate my hair with a more moisture rich conditioner. My curls stayed bouncy throughout the day, but there are better products out on the market in this price range. August 18, 2008, 11:57 am

Like the shampoo, the conditioner smells awful...like vegetables. Anyways, it doesn't moisturize my hair, and seems to exacerbate frizz. It doesn't seem to do anything different for styling curls, either. At least it cleanses my hair, and you get a big bottle for a good price. August 3, 2008, 2:40 am

    Not Thrilled

    by Shelly396 (27 reviews)
Maybe it's not intended for those with thick, natural curls. It made my curls way too tight. I also found the scent unpleasant. July 8, 2008, 8:11 am

better for making curly hair look straight than for defining curls

    by vwterry (4 reviews)
This product makes my hair smooth and, when it has a little length at the crown, look almost straight after air drying. It is not very good at defining curls because it tends to weigh hair down. May 29, 2008, 8:20 pm

    Recommendedfor the Curl-Inclined

    by ILUVNJST (2 reviews)
Didn't work very well for my wavy/frizzy/fine hair, & built up. Smell was fair. My sister has very naturally curly hair, however, & it works very well for her. February 24, 2008, 11:28 am
