Review: Tarte Rise and Shine Plumping Lip Stain

So so lip tint

Love this.
I think this is a great stain/gloss. The stain is a gel formula that offers great pigmentation. It does not go on streaky and last quite awhile. It does need to be reapplied after eating usually. It's a good red for ...read morepeople afraid of red (like me.) I have fair skin and it's just a nice flush color and the gloss gives it a nice shine. I also have the nude color and it is a browner toned nude. It looks great on my fair skin unlike most brown nudes that just look horrible on me. The gloss is a nice clearer nude gloss that tones down the brown just enough. The gloss is a minty vanilla type gloss that smells great and doesn't taste bad either. It's sticky enough to last a few hours, but not the gross weighty kind of sticky (the kind that's a bit suffocating on your lips). It does tingle a bit at first as it is cooling and when you wear both together your lips do appear fuller. It's a very smooth comfortable gloss. The gel type stain side has a doe foot applicator that works well, but I still tend to smooth out the edges with my fingers if need be. I find that applying it to my bottom lip and pressing my lips together, then adding a bit to the outer part of my upper lip works best for application. The gloss side has a brush applicator that also works very well. The brush is decent and stays straight (no splayed brush hairs that I have found) and applies smoothly. Did not like at all
I got this in Cherry and I did not like it at all. First of all the stain came off as a bright fushia color on my lips which have a lot of pigment anyway so that should tell you how neon it looked. Secondly it did not have the best staying power, at least not what I imagined a stain to be. I wore it to the gym so I wouldn't have that no makeup look after working out. A bit too sheer to be called a "stain"
To make matters worse, it's the wrong color for me. I have the one in "Cherry". Not that I had that much choice. The only other color is "Pink" and really, I should've known better as pink based lip colors do not go well with my warm undertones. Still, I wanted to try it only because I love lip stains and want to try every single one out there to see which ones would work b...read moreest for me as you never know until you try...right? Anyway, the color pay off of this product is just not enough. It's real sheer even for a color called "Cherry". I would've expected a little more pop from this, seeing as it's the darker of the two choices. no tingle

it's all about the plumping side
The gloss end of this tube is fine, but the plumping lipstain is goooooood! I think it really helps make my lips redder, besides the fact that it's a lipstain, in addition to making them nicely fuller, and doesn't burn the way some lip plumpers do. Better than some, definitely not the best
