Editor Review

Rated a 4.5

So when Tarte rolled out a lip sister to their popular cheek stain, I hoped for natural color with long wear. Unfortunately the dual-ended tube disappoints. On one end, a too-watery lip stain applies too sheer to be seen (think cherry Chap Stick). On the other end is a thick, white, somewhat iridescent gloss. The gloss does have a plumping tingle and long wear, but the color is a gluey downer. When worn alone, the lip stain had short wear.

A bit too sheer to be called a "stain"

To make matters worse, it's the wrong color for me. I have the one in "Cherry". Not that I had that much choice. The only other color is "Pink" and really, I should've known better as pink based lip colors do not go well with my warm undertones. Still, I wanted to try it only because I love lip stain...s and want to try every single one out there to see which ones would work best for me as you never know until you try...right? Anyway, the color pay off of this product is just not enough. It's real sheer even for a color called "Cherry". I would've expected a little more pop from this, seeing as it's the darker of the two choices. On me, it looked like a sheer lip balm with a slight burgundy cherry finish so if you want that "I just drank a Kool Aid" look to your lips, this one may not be for you. May 9, 2009, 2:22 am

    Did not like at all

I got this in Cherry and I did not like it at all. First of all the stain came off as a bright fushia color on my lips which have a lot of pigment anyway so that should tell you how neon it looked. Secondly it did not have the best staying power, at least not what I imagined a stain to be. I wore it to the gym so I would...n't have that no makeup look after working out. Gone before I was. Great Stain and Plump in One

    by CarolBB (3 reviews)
The tarte colors and product deliver a nice stain without delivering too much product at once. The plumper/sealer is great without being irritating. The color lasts about 4-5 hours but does 'eat off' and you will need to reapply after eating. I like the colors and the applicator works well. Too many of the roll-on stains (l...ike Revlon) do not deposit color evenly -- this one does a great job! November 29, 2007, 9:46 am

I got this with a gift set-like the concept, but the color stains like you've been drinking merlot all night and you have the "wine ring" around your mouth after an hour or so...glad I got it in a set, wouldn't have paid for this product otherwise-good concept but the formula needs some work. This product is fantastic

    by Kel0458 (3 reviews)
This lip stain plus gloss combo is fantastic. The stain does not clump up, bleed or stain your lips irregularly. The gloss that goes over the stain seems to set it in and is the perfect match for it! In addition it is a space saver in the purse since it basically combines two great products into one. I love it. I found the actual stain to be lacking in pigment and the consistency is very thin. May 9, 2009, 7:07 pm

    no tingle

    by thebun (27 reviews)
I have tried other plumpers and notice that this one has no tingle and my lips do not look fuller. Too bad, I like the colour side but only a little. April 4, 2009, 5:56 am

it's all about the plumping side

    by ellabelle (7 reviews)
The gloss end of this tube is fine, but the plumping lipstain is goooooood! I think it really helps make my lips redder, besides the fact that it's a lipstain, in addition to making them nicely fuller, and doesn't burn the way some lip plumpers do. It of course tingles a bit, but that's to be expected. I almost always ha...ve this on me! March 17, 2009, 1:29 pm

Better than some, definitely not the best

    by cmarley50 (8 reviews)
Lack of staying power and pigment plus icky gloss = 3 stars. Save your $21 and go for PosieTint or any of the Lipstain gels by Vincent Longo. Then use your own fave gloss on top. December 6, 2008, 9:40 am

I usually love the tarte products, but this one had me baffled with disapproval. I like a stain that remains for a while, but this one doesn't stand up to a few other stains I've tried. September 1, 2008, 5:32 pm
