    Holy Smokes . . . Or Not!

I have very fair skin, and it's very easy for eyeshadow to look too dark on my skin. In 2009, Clinique did a Limited Edition run of Fresh Bloom All Over Color in Bamboo Pink. I had used many shades/brand of eyeshadows since I was a teen, usually from drugstores (ie: Covergirl, Revlon, Almay, etc.) or Sephora/online (ie: Benefit, Sephora, etc.), but most of the time, the colors I purchased were "fun" looks -- blues, grays, and other "loud" shades! When it came to natural eye looks, I've only been happy with Clinique's choices. I found other brands' natural tones to appear sallow or harsh against my skin, they felt greasy, the color pigments didn't last all day and needed reapplication, and the shades would creep into my barely-there eyelid lines (even at age 16 . . .!) that I didn't want defined! While growing up (I'm now 32), I've only found well-made, natural shades from Clinique that I thought were really pretty, applied easily, etc. Whether nudes, taupes, or lavendars, they all were wonderful against my skin! When the 2009 Limited Edition Bamboo Pink line arrived, Clinique included a color Surge Eyeshadow Quad in Pink Chocolate -- it included the Bamboo Pink tone, a chocolate brown, a white-ish highlighter shade, and a very light pink. At first glance, the palate seemed like the shades would be on the dark side for my skin tone, but I fortunately took the risk and ordered it. When I tried it on, I realized how versatile these shadows are! They go on very sheer, even the two dark-looking shades, and you can build the color to your liking! Most eyeshadows brand can only look very light or extremely pigmented, so I appreciate being able to buy one product and get multiple looks! The Quad has allowed me to create stunning, barely-there day looks to exciting, highly-pigmented smoky eye looks for going out at night -- and virtually anything in between! There's also tons of room for variations and mix-and -matching: sometimes I just want to use a couple of colors, other times I use all four simultaneously; sometimes I put the dark colors on my lids and the light on the brow, and other times I switch it up and reverse the look! Aside from looking great, the shadows glide on easily (even with the included travel sponge "brush" applicator that beauty consultants beg women to throw out), feel silky, doesn't require primer to stay out of eyelid creases, and stays put all day and night until you take it off! A few times, I fell asleep before taking off my eye makeup, and my color looked amazingly fresh the following morning! Here's the problem: Although Clinique still produces the Color Surge Eyeshadow Quad in other shades, they unfortunately have not brought Bamboo Pink back to life since its one-month run in June of 2009. I find it odd since this collection (it was blush, lipstick/gloss, eyeshadows, etc. in Bamboo Pink) flew off the shelves AND fashion critiques raved that Bamboo Pink was the most amazing shade since it pulled off the rare feat of complimenting all skin tones, from super-fair to extremely-dark! The only way to score this eyeshadow quad (and most of the other items in the collection) these days is by paying jacked-up prices for it through eBay and other sites that sell discontinued makeup lines. It's not likely you'll find them -- my hunts have become exceedingly harder, and as of last week, I couldn't even find the eyeshadows . . . or, rather, I found one seller in China who wanted $85 for the Quad (not including shipping) . . . and I just couldn't bare spending a small fortune for it. :-( Bottom Line: I highly recommend this product! You aren't likely to find the Chocolate Pink shade, but Clinique currently produces several other flattering Quad shadows. No matter your skin tone, they will all work since the color is buildable. There isn't a gigantic variety in quad shades (as compared with Clinique's other shadow lines) - but if you don't see what you want in the Quads, check the Trio, Duo, and Single Color Surge shades -- you can always buy separate compacts to mix and match@ Happy smoking . . . or not . . . and I mean smoking your eyes, not the puffing kind! ;-p — 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Good value, my fave for daytime wear

This quad in Pink Chocolates is versatile and beautiful. It goes with just about everything and gives a lovely, soft, natural finish. I love this for everyday wear, but I also wore it on my wedding day and looked amazing! Some people complain about the low pigmentation of Clinique eyeshadows, and they are right -- if you're wanting dramatic color, go to MAC. However, this eyeshadow is hard to mess up (great for people new to makeup, or in a hurry!). If I had to choose just one eyeshadow palette to take on a trip, it would be this one, hands down. — 1 year, 11 months ago

    Gorgeous, versitile colors

This eyeshadow feels so silky when applied, and blends like a dream. The colors are nice and pigmented and last all day without dulling or moving around your eyelids. Overall, a great quad and totally worth the money. — 2 years, 11 months ago

Clinique color surge Eyeshadow = Beautiful, long-lasting Blendable colors!

I have this eyeshadow quad in Twiglet, Pink Chocolate, Plum potion & sugar sugar. The colors are beautiful & go on your lids so easy. Blending colors is not a problem with this eyeshadow quad because they all go very well together, no matter what color you use. I love the plum plum. It is my favorite! I put it over all my other colors for a light shimmer look. These eye shadows do not crease and last all day. You can not go wrong with the quality of this Clinique eye shadow. — 4 years, 2 months ago

    Really flattering

I just bought this product because there was a bonus gift. Im happy to say its a really great product. Its not that expensive compared to other brands but you really get your moneys worth when it comes with a gift for your purchase. This product looks really good on fair skinned people and it stays on for a long time. The compact itself is also really nice to look at. — 4 years, 8 months ago
