MAC Eye Shadow Reviews

MAC, You Had Me at Hello!
I recently read an article about MAC cosmetics and how it began as a humble venture. Now available in more than 70 countries and worn by virtually every runway model and celebrity, the company is huge (it was snatched up by Estee Lauder in 1998). MAC accounts for more cosmetic sales than any other non-drugstore brand. Why? MAC tries to be "all things for all women," a brand that is not intimidating, non-judgmental, and makes using makeup as much fun as possible. The company doesn't want to be stereotyped as preppy, sophisticated, or outrageous. It wants to defy description--and it does! With its mind-blowing number of eye shadow colors, there are certainly several to fit anybody. More overwhelming? MAC shadows are available in a enticing range of finishes--frost, lustre, matte, satin, veluxe pearl, and velvet. How can a woman NOT fall in love? Choosing MAC shadows is very much like visiting a Sherwin-Williams paint store, where you stand with your mouth agape at what is available. The hues have such subtle gradations that you may find yourself comparing two for half an hour. With my addiction to eye shadows, I practice the ultimate in self-control when I visit a MAC counter and make sure I research their online site thoroughly beforehand so that I know what I want. If I don't, I may be late on our mortgage payment! How does one not fall in love with the deep, true pigmentation, the plush, deluxe texture, or the all-day wear? My only problem is that I want to work with many of these shadows at once. I want to combine "Vapour" (velvety peach-pink with a violet pearl undertone) with "Steamy" (bluish-green) or possibly "Handwritten" (a chocolate so deep and inviting that you don't know whether to bite into it or wear it!). The price of $15.00 per shade is reasonable for the quality you get, but it's too much to buy all that I want. That sounds hedonistic, and perhaps it is. One trick I've learned with these wondrous gems: You can use brushes to work with them, but you can also simply employ your finger to press the outstanding tones onto your eyes for a gentle, ethereal look. However you choose to use it, just do it! (Whoops, I'm stealing your thunder, Nike!) — 2 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 8 of 10 people said helpful

You will love it.
MAC shadows have good pigmentation, don't crease and last all day. — 2 years, 2 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 8 of 17 people said helpful

YES.
MAC eyeshadows are my favorite. I love the wide palate of colors-- they have colors available that I haven't even dreamed of. They are very blendable and wear a fairly long time. Best of all, though, is that each one lasts forever, and doesn't fade. I usually have to force myself to throw them out before I'm done using them. — 2 years, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 12 of 16 people said helpful

Great products overall!
I own several MAC eyeshadows and love them all! My particular favorites right now are Shroom and Patina. The pigmentation is good, the lasting power is good, and there are TONS of great colors! My only gripe is that some of the colors are drugstore dupeable, and the packaging isn't my favorite. — 3 years, 5 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 11 of 26 people said helpful

amazing
MAC eyeshadows are so versatile. they come in a million colors and finishes, you really cant go wrong. they are SUPER PIGMENTED and silky. with the proper tools, they blend nicely and make beautiful eye looks. i love MAC shadows! my only problem is the high price. these individual shadows are about $14 each, making it really expensive to make your collection. i have lots of great eyeshadows of the same quality from other cheaper brands, which makes me never want to buy MAC again. but nonetheless, this is an amazing quality shadow. you cant take away the appeal of MAC! — 2 years, 4 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 7 of 14 people said helpful

MAC has good quality shadow. The color selection is great (even though they don't make my fave anymore). The eyeshadow has a nice rich pigment to it, and the color stays true. I have to use an eyeshadow primer uner it, but that is more of an everyday habbit though. I don't like the purchase process though, because makeup counter girls are rude! My favorite MAC shadows were the sweet and cozy line, I loved every single shade that they had. it was a collection of soft (brown and rose) colors that warmed the face, and brightened up any room. I think that they only sell that collection in the winter/fall, but I have not checked in a while. I would have to say that humid, and shroom are my go to colors from MAC, they are the only colors that I bought after they ran out. Since MAC is so spendy, I go in and apply it (to see how it looks) before I buy. or, ask for samples. — 1 year, 10 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 10 people said helpful

Lovely
These pots go on satiny smooth and are very well pigmented. They are long lasting on the eye and come in an incredible array of colors. I just find them to be a bit pricey for the amount of product you get. You also need to be a bit gentle with them - one of my pots broke up within months of use. — 1 year, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 6 people said helpful

Something for Everyone
The sheer variety of colors and finishes make MAC eye shadows stand out from just about every other makeup line. If you are looking for a particular color or effect, you should be able to find it at MAC. Colors range from pale and pastel to dark and vibrant. I think these were the first "high end" eye shadows I ever bought and I have continued to purchase and love them ever since. I have a 15 shadow palette and a separate 4 shadow palette full of MAC eye shadows that I turn to regularly when doing my makeup. MAC offers 7 different finishes to their eye shadows so you can get something matte, glittery, shimmery, satiny smooth, etc. The only finish I don't care much for is "Lustre" because I find them to be less pigmented and less smooth. Because they contain larger pieces of shimmer/glitter, there tends to be more fall out when applying these. My favorite finishes have been the mattes, satins and velvets. I tend to like neutral eye shadows and MAC has a stellar selection of neutrals. Each little shadow pan lasts for ages, even when used close to everyday. These can be used to apply color all over the lid, as shadow eyeliner, as an inner corner highlight or brow highlight and to fill in your eyebrows. At $15 each, they are not cheap, however these cost less than most single eye shadows that you will find at makeup counters and/or Sephora. It's definitely worth it to go to a MAC counter or store and swatch the shadows you are considering. The MAC girls are also great at making suggestions based on the look you want to achieve. MAC will forever be my "go to" for eye shadows. — 2 months, 3 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 5 of 5 people said helpful
