It Works But It's Greasy
We purchased the Burt's Bees Herbal Insect Repellant to use when we go hiking in the Sierra Nevadas. I really liked that it was natural so my family gave it a try. This does keep the bugs away for the most part, but we all felt it was a little greasy. It is still better than almost all of the options out there. High percentages of deet being sprayed all over my family is not something I want...read more to do. Get Rid of Bugs

I finally found something that will work on my skin and truly keep bugs away. I used this after being attacked the day before while on a trip to Mexico. I am always being bitten and then getting swollen because of them. The scent from this is really citrus like. It has lemongrass and peppermint, which surprise surprise biting bugs don't like! This is oily, but remember it consists of quite a f...read moreew oils! The scent isn't overly powerful, but I would recommend that you apply this prior to putting on any clothes. The scent does dissipate, so no worries about smelling like a citrus fruit. I even used a vanilla musk and that came through stronger than the repellent! Not as effective as DEET but a nice natural alternative
Personally I really like the lemony scent. It is a bit strong so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is sensitive to smells. It works like a citronella candle in that the scent should mask your natural scent so when you can't smell it anymore you should reapply. It isn't as effective as DEET repellents, but since its power comes from natural oils you don't have to worry about the safety of it...read more either. I usually wear it mixed in with some sunscreen when I go hiking. When I'm going to hang out by a lake or something that is going to have lots of bugs I bust out something stronger. Fades Quickly

Overall a good repellent.
This product has a light, slick oily feel when first applied - like a moisturizing body oil. The lemon fragrance is strong and pleasant if you like that type of scent, probably not as pleasant if you don't. It tends to mellow out after a few minutes. On a recent trip to the Amazon...read more Burt's Bees Herbal Insect Repellent did a great job repelling large biting flies but did nothing to ward off the little bitey gnat-like things (although to be fair, DEET didn't keep the little menaces away either). So consider where you're going and what kind of pest you'll encounter there before you choose a product. A big plus is that it's natural, so you can use it on sensitive skin or kids. Great stuff!
Burt's Bees have always made good products. This all-natural insect repellent lives up the brand name.
