Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion

The sensitive skin equivalent to Clinique's popular bottles of astringent, this green-hued liquid acts as both a toner and exfoliant. The acne-fighting salicylic acid and skin-moistening glycol make it less harsh because it's missing drying additives like fragrance and alcohol. It's overly thick and chalky-smelling, but safe to use on uneven complexions at least once a day.

January 1, 2008, 1:26 pm The entire Clinique System is to die for. I'm an African-American female with persistant eczema (dry skin) but somehow always manage to have menstrual and stress induced acne. Traditional skin care products would burn my skin and leave me with dry patches. Sensitive skin formulas would either leave my skin feeling greasy or wouldn't fight the acne. Clinique, however, has been the only skin care system that only benefits my skin. The toner stings (a little) but evens out my uneven skin tone, fights the acne, and keeps my skin moisturized. I won't use another skincare system again in life. January 1, 2008, 1:26 pm

It is very soothing and slightly moisturising on my skin, and helps with breakouts (it contains 0.5% salicylic acid and is at an effective PH for the BHA to work). I've used it on and off for many years now and have never been disappointed by it. Truly one of Clinique's best products! As a tip for the guys who might be considering this and don't like using cotton wool on their face (bits can come off on any stubble, even after shaving and it gets a bit messy), just decant a very small amount into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together to spread it out and rub the clarifying lotion into your face (avoiding your eye areas of course!) You may use a little more of the product but it's *much* easier! April 11, 2008, 8:07 am

January 20, 2008, 9:44 am I've been a Clinique user for over 15 years, every since I was old enough to sneak into my mother's bathroom and steal those little green makeup compacts and go crazy on my own face. As an adult, I can appreciate Clinique's high quality skin products to improve the health of your skin. This product is no exception! It exfoliates gently and makes your skin absorb the lotion better! A lot of skin dullness will go away after regular use. Just fabulous. Occassionally during the winter, you might want to switch to a heavier lotion or use it once a day instead of twice if you are prone to getting little dry spots or flaky skin. November 29, 2007, 4:33 pm I discovered this a few years ago and I always have a bottle on hand. It contains BHA (Salicylic Acid) at a percent and pH level that is perfect for light exfoliation. I like to use peels, but when my skin is sensitive and still needs some exfoliation, I can fall back on this product. I like the fact that they used Salicylic Acid in this, instead of an AHA because BHA is actually soothing to the skin because of it's relationship to aspirin. This is a fantastic product those with skin sensitive skin, dry skin or with acne (acne is red, irritated, skin). It might seem like you're getting less of this product then in the Clinique's other Clarifying Lotions, because the bottle IS smaller. However; this product has a light gel texture and it doesn't contain all the alcohol found in the others. Alcohol is drying to the skin and can cause long term damage. Trust me, you won't miss it! An added bonus is that it's not very expensive, especially if you wait until there's a GWP, to stock up on it. November 29, 2007, 4:33 pm

May 5, 2008, 4:13 am While it is true that this is the mildest of the clarifying lotion stages, this is also an alcohol free formula which basically means it's safe to use on any skin type regularly and frequently. The minimal amount of salicylic acid basically contributes to some blemish control but can still irritate those who are sensitive to the additive because it can be an abrasive or drying component still for skin that needs to be babied. This is somewhat of a gel mixture with liquid applied to the face and it actually reminds me of just a skin refresher and a regular toner which does serves it purpose of preparing the skin for moisturizer to be absorbed and balancing out the levels in the skin after a wash. Still, you can find a better value at mass retail stores for comparable formulas. May 5, 2008, 4:13 am

    3-step system works!

February 20, 2008, 4:23 pm I tried 3-step when I was 14, and the saleslady said that it would clear up my acne and I wouldn't need to use any other products. Well, she was just plain lying, and since then I was convinced that this whole 3-step thing was bogus. However, now I'm 25, and my recent trip to a clinique counter had them trying to get me to try it again. I relented, and I am glad! While my 14 year old skin needed something stronger, the mild clarifying lotion is just enough to prevent breakouts and even out my 25 year old skin. I don't use the Clinique soap or lotion, but the cleanse, clarifying lotion, moisturizer regime twice a day has made my skin so much nicer. February 20, 2008, 4:23 pm

December 27, 2007, 9:40 am I've bypassed getting clarifying lotion every time I shop. And each time I get out of the shower and forget to moisturize immediately, I wish I had some. Beauty experts say you really don't NEED this stuff, but they do support the fact it makes your skin more prepared to take on the moisturizer and make the most of it. After going without it for so long (and having used this product in the past) I am going back to buying it. Clinique's Mild Clarifying Lotion is the one I choose because of my sensitive skin and you really don't need much more "clarifying" than what this gives you. Unless you're trying to forego actually washing your face - then maybe use the regular clarifying lotion. Using the whole process would be best - but we all know we're occasionally lazy, hmm girls? *grin* December 27, 2007, 9:40 am

I have started using the Acne Defense system from Clinique as well but I find that the clarifying lotion in that line is WAY too harsh to use twice a day, so I use this at least half the time and it works much better. Also, these bottles last forever. Best applied with cotton square, rather than ball. December 13, 2007, 10:30 pm

    A nice toner

This is by far the best toner I've used. Its key ingredients are about .5% salicylic acid and aloe. It is very mild and gentle. It leaves my oily skin very lightly moisturized (gets rid of any tightness from washing my face), and what I really love about it is that it gets rid of any lingering flakiness on my skin. In terms of immediate results (very important to me), I even like it better than the Paula's Choice toners I've used. I love the fact that it's fragrance-free, but I wish it were dye-free as well. Also, since I tend to use up toner faster than any other skin care product, I like the fact that I can purchase it at my local mall instead of ordering it online, as I do with all the Paula's Choice products I use. However, I don't find a toner to really be a necessary part of my skincare routine, so I don't expect to repurchase. If you're looking for a mild toner for almost any skin type (with the exception of perhaps very dry skin), I highly recommend Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion. Ingredients: purified water, butylene glycol, biosaccharide gum-1, cyclodextrin, salicylic acid, millet plant glycoprotein extract, aloe, arginine, peg-10 soya sterol, ceteth-20, dimethicone, ceteth-2, dimethicone copolyol, hexadecanol, methylparaben, d&c green no. 5, d&c yellow no. 10. I have to say that even though I have acne prone skin and this is allegedly for dry skin it has never caused me any problems. Very gentle on the skin with no stinging, feels like water going on. The only toner I have consistently repurchased and for me that is saying a lot. May 29, 2008, 7:26 am
