Essie Top Coat Reviews

One of the better top coats I've tried
I really like this top coat. It goes on smoothly and I can tell it dries faster than most of my other top coats. I also love that when I use it, it doesn't drag some of the color from my nails back into the bottle. All top coats I've ever used do that but this one doesn't. It really seems to stick to the polish. I also think it makes me polish last longer. I'm on day 4 right now with only one coat of top coat and my nails are just barely starting to chip. That never happens for me. — 1 year, 11 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Great!
I Purchased the No Chips Ahead top coat and I'm absolutely in love. It leaves a great glossy finish and I've been able to get up to two weeks and my nails still look like they've been freshly painted. Works great with Essie's All in One Base. — 1 year, 8 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Ehhh.... in the trash it goes!
I really needed a new top coat and decided to buy a little bit of "luxury." I normally buy NYC or Wet N Wild polish whenever I actually have to buy any at all. Usually, I just use the polish at my nail salon and rarely have to do any touch ups in between. I bought the Essie No Chips Ahead top coat and was completely unimpressed. The price tag for this polish was around $8 and I was expecting to be really impressed by it. I prefer a nice, shiny, glossy finish and this was more "natural;" not quite matte, but far from glossy and this was after 2 coats. I also thought the formula was really thin; too thick is not good either, but this was almost watery. It reminded me of drying drops that you can add to each nail to make the polish dry faster. I definitely wouldn't be this top coat again, and frankly, if they can't satisfy me with their top coat, I am probably not going to try any of their nail polishes either, even "ballet slippers." Back to my NYC Extra Shiny Top Coat for $.93. It is 5 star in my book. :) — 1 week, 6 days agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Heavy duty top coat
A very heavy, slow drying top coat. Dries to a nice shine, but doesn't last for long. Works well to prevent chipping if you apply it to freshen up your manicure every other day. — 5 years, 3 months agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

no chips ahead - not worth it
I used No Chips Ahead on top of Essie Sole Mate about 4 hours before bed, and I woke up with imprints on my nails from my sheets! I tried to hide the mess by reapplying the top coat on my way to work, but by the end of my 50+ min commute, it still wasn't dry, and had bubbled. Total disaster! I like Essie nail polishes, but I won't be buying this topcoat again. I might try Good to Go, since the reviews seem positive. — 11 months, 2 weeks agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 0 of 0 people said helpful

Shines
This is a good top coat. It gives nails a great shine. A little thicker than most top coats but deals out some good protection against chipping, def. needs touch ups after several days. Perfect to wear with colored polish or alone. Worth the money. — 5 years agoThis review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful
