How I Fake a Sleek Brazilian Blowout

I lived in San Francisco for many years. If you've never been, it's a beautiful, cosmopolitan Northern California city by the bay that's simply heavenly. It also happens to be a masterful frizz-factory for hair, particularly if you have thick, wavy, frizz-prone hair like mine. I would leave my apartment with a smoothly coiffed 'do only to reach my destination with a decidedly un-lovely puff of fuzz and flyaways in its place.

The frizz got so bad that I developed a system to fight it -- I'd apply anti-frizz serum, pull my hair back into a loose ponytail, then cover it with a hoodie till I got where I was going. But, alas, it was only mildly successful. When I moved south to Los Angeles I was relieved that the weather here doesn't pouf out my hair quite as much, but I still struggle to control the freaking frizz.

Since the hoodie method left a lot to be desired and because I was fresh out of any other McGyver-inspired ideas, I tasked hair-smoothing pro Erin Athey, a stylist at Fur salon in Los Angeles, with liberating me from my puffy head once and for all. I asked her to give me a plan to get my hair Brazillian Blow Out smooth -- without having to submit to the $300 chemical process.

Here's what she offered up.
