Full lips might have never gone out of style, but if there was ever a time when they reigned supreme, it's now, when unabashed celebs like Kylie Jenner and famed makeup artists like Jade Marie post pics of their ever-expanding pout on the reg.

But IRL, many of us want to enhance our lips without the help of injections or fillers. Thankfully, there are some easy — and temporary — tricks of the beauty trade that can turn even the leanest of lips into a plump pout. We turned to celebrity makeup artists for their best-kept secrets for scoring bigger lips without the help of a needle.

Exfoliation is the key to revealing brighter, more youthful skin and it's the same for lips. This is especially important during the winter months when lips tend to be dry and chapped. "The harsh cold causes lips to tighten and reduce in size," says celebrity makeup artist Alex LaMarsh, who has worked with the likes of Kim Kardashian, Cher and Sarah Jessica Parker. "Exfoliating those unwanted skin cells gives your lips a beautiful flush and naturally larger appearance."

You can do this several ways. One is to use a clean toothbrush to lightly slough off the dead skin cells. Another is to use a lip exfoliating product like Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, $24, which gently buffs away dry flakes to reveal a smoother, more even lip texture. You can also DIY your own lip scrub. Celebrity makeup artist Vinnetta Scrivo suggests mixing together coconut oil, one drop of peppermint oil (a little goes a long way) and raw cane sugar in a glass jar.

This might be one of the oldest tricks in the book but it's one to keep on file, says Ariana Grande's makeup artist, Daniel Chinchilla. It's not as simple as it sounds to pull off, so it's best to start slow. He suggests selecting a lip liner that's slightly darker than your natural lip line. "MAC Lip Pencil in Stripdown, $17.50, is a good color on most lighter complexions," he says. "If you have a deeper complexion, try the color Cork."

Next, line the outside of your lip and fill in the rest of your lip with the pencil. Take a lighter lipstick (his go-to is Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color in Bare It All, $2.67, and try your hardest to stay in the center of the lips so that the outer part is slightly darker. "You want a slight contrast to give the illusion of fuller lips," he says.

The two-in-one lip look is not only trendy, but it's also a quick fix for enhancing your pout when you use a lighter and darker shade. To make this look your own, LaMarsh suggests starting with the darker lipstick from the inside corners of the mouth to the center of the lips. Next, apply the lighter of the two lipsticks to the center of your lips. "Darker colors appear farther away and lighter colors appear closer, so this optical illusion makes your lips appear larger and poutier," she says. Make sure the lipsticks complement each other and are close in shade. She loves using Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Honey, $18, for the center and Staunch for the outside corners.

Once you apply your lip color, a little added concealer in the areas surrounding the lipstick and lip liner can help draw out the color, add volume and make the lips look fuller in a flash. For this technique, Scrivo uses a lightweight concealer one subtle shade lighter than the actual skin tone. Look for a tip applicator that is easy to use around the lips, such as Wander Beauty Dualist Matte and Illuminating Concealer, $29. This draws more attention to your lip area. "Apply over the lip line and then use a nude lip liner on the outer edges, slightly drawing outside of the lip line, to create the illusion of a fuller lip," she adds. "Fill in with lipstick and a gold, shimmery gloss, like Burberry Kisses Gloss in Gold Shimmer, $29, in the center for maximum effect."
