Q&A: Everything You Want to Know About Jennifer Aniston's Hair

Plus, her favorite stay-full breakfast recipe, the craziest beauty trick she ever tried and what she does to look (and feel) prettier in 20 minutes

What's your favorite hair product and why?
"I have a couple. Can I have more than one? The one that I really think is a game changer is the Living Proof Restore mask. I use that every Sunday. So many friends of mine who have trouble with dry or over-colored hair use it, and It's been a game changer for them. I'll use the Restore shampoo if I go through a period where I've been working on a movie and I've had a lot of wear and tear. If it's humid, I use No Frizz. It's so easy -- there's not a whole lot of to-do to do -- and it actually does what it says it does."

How do you take care of your hair on a daily basis?

"I mix it up a lot, but I also don't do a lot. I leave it alone as much as possible. I don't wash it every day, and I can go two days even. [Living Proof] discovered a molecule that replaced silicone in all the products, and silicone seemed to be the reason products work really well at first, but then make your hair dirty. And silicone turns into a plastic coating around your hair and your hair snaps. But these products let me go longer without washing, and my hair doesn't snap."

What do you like to do with your hair when you do it yourself?
"I use shampoo, conditioner and a leave-in product. And I'll usually wear it down and just blow dry the frizzy cowlicks around my face. I have curly hair, but I like to straighten it. And sometimes a braid."

Is your hair naturally thick? "Well, it used to be. I have thick hair, but over the years, our hair ages. It's age and losing too much weight. So be sure to eat healthy."

(Jennifer Aniston's friend and hairstylist of 21 years, Chris McMillan, created this fishtail braid with the help of a clip-in extension and the new Living Proof Instant Texture Mist.)

Was there ever a time you got a cut or color you hated?
"That's old news! That would be the Rachel. And a color … When I was in high school, I was magenta and all sorts of weird purple. But I never regretted that. I regretted looks overall -- things I wore in the 80's and even the 90's. Shaving my head when I was 14 wasn't smart -- I wasn't bald, more of an over-the-ear sort of thing."

What's the best hair advice you've ever gotten?

"Chris [McMillan] says don't wash your hair every day, and now we don't have to. And keep coloring to a minimum if you can. And this new thing I heard about eating coconut oil, but I don't know. These trends come and go."

So many women idolize your hair, but who's your hair idol?
"I think Gisele has gorgeous hair. I also love Kate Moss and her no-effort, sexy, I-just-got-out-of-bed hair."

What's the strangest beauty trick you've ever tried?
"One of my friends told me to try the Preparation H under the eyes if your eyes are puffy thing. I did that, and then I found out they discontinued the ingredient that was in Preparation H that achieved the effect of de-puffing. So I'm just an A-hole putting butt cream on my face. I'll stick with cucumbers and tea bags -- things that work."

To prepare for my interview with Jennifer Aniston, I watched "Marley & Me." (It happened to be on television, and I got sucked in.)

"Aww, that was one of my favorite movies to make," Aniston said when I told her how I spent my Saturday night. "There were 22 different dogs, and at least 3 people went home with puppies."

But finding a segue from puppies to hair is surprisingly challenging (yellow labs, blonde hair?). "I thought about your hair while I watched the movie," I said. (Lie. I was too busy bawling my eyes out to even consider her hair.) And then I asked her our most pressing Jennifer Aniston hair questions.

And let me tell you, Jennifer Aniston can talk about hair. She knows her stuff -- especially when it comes to Living Proof, a brand she co-owns. You'll find all that -- plus the star's favorite oatmeal recipe -- in my Jennifer Aniston interview.
