What Happened When I Tried Instagram's Most WTF Brow Trends

Caution: Craziness ahead

It seems you can't scroll through your Instagram feed without seeing an out-there brow look. The art, detail, and craftsmanship of the look is incredible, but then you realize that there's no way these Instagram gals are leaving the comfort of their bedrooms before wiping that crazy brow off. Or are they?

When I started seeing these, uh, interesting brow trends all over my Instagram, I couldn't comprehend why anyone would want to do anything that different to their brows. One day (mostly out of curiosity) I decided to try out some of the most popular, eye-catching Instagram brow trends and see what the hype was really all about.

From squiggly brows (which literally made me want to crawl up into a ball and hide) to the underbrow (which Gigi Hadid rocked so naturally I considered it), these brow trends are definitely eye-catching to put it lightly. Here's what happened when I went out in public wearing Instagram's latest brow trends. (Prepare to cringe.)

My Brows IRL
Let me start off by saying my brows are my pride and joy. I have never let anyone touch them. I tweeze them myself, have never had a wax, and definitely wouldn't let anyone get near them with this whole threading thing. I spend about 10 minutes each morning carefully creating faux brow hairs with my brow pencil then slick them into place with my brow gel, and each time I feel more and more accomplished. I photographed each look and posted them on Facebook to show all my friends and family (and all the random people that somehow have become Facebook friends with me over the years). What they had to say was simply priceless.

The Look: Metallic Brows
After looking through inspiration photos, I assumed there was no way this was ever going to look cute and that I would immediately hate it. To my surprise, I wasn't that against metallic brows once I put them on. While I'm not adventurous enough to wear this trend out in public on a daily basis, for a fun night out on the town (you know, in a town far away from where I reside) I may be into it. My friends weren't so convinced. Still, of all four looks, this is the one that they were the most in to. Well, okay, maybe not in to. Maybe more like "I'm less offended by No. 1." Others thought that this brow look would be more appropriate for Halloween, a festival or a "pretty high-end fashion show."

The Look: Underbrows
My thoughts: Thanks to Gigi Hadid at the Giambatista Valli AW16 fashion show back in March, this trend was all. over. Instagram. Seeing as my current idol, sweet angel sent down from above, Gigi, wore this trend, I told myself that I had to love it. After pushing aside my Gigi obsession, I realized that this brow trend really wasn't so bad. Out of the four trends, this is one that I would wear somewhere in the public eye without feeling like a total space case.
