Perfume for Pirates
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales" comes out later this month, so naturally pirate everything is trending. In the interest of smelling like Johnny Depp in eyeliner, I'm spritzing myself with By Kilian Black Phantom, $295. It was inspired by pirates -- think rum, sugar cane, dark chocolate, coffee and sandalwood -- and smells deliciously sexy. Plus, it comes in a beautiful skull-adorned black lacquer box that's already claimed a prominent spot among curiosities on my bookshelf.

Superhero Eye Mask
While I love full face LED mask if only for the Instagram value, they're not the most practical things to wear around the house. The Dr. Dennis Gross SpectraLight EyeCare Pro LED Light Mask, $159, solves the issue by targeting the eye area while leaving a space open so you can see. Plus, it's comfortable, each treatment only takes three minutes, and I love that it also hits forehead furrows and the pigmentation on the tops of my cheeks. I've been using it on the sly while I floss and brush my teeth so as not to scare my husband and dog.

Scalp Care Shampoo
Recently, a hair care developer told me she blames silicone in shampoo for hair loss. Now, before you freak out, know that I've since talked to many other experts who dispute this. I did, however, start inspecting my shampoo labels and thinking about how to better care for my scalp. Kerastase Specifique Bain Vital Dermo-Calm, $43, is amazing because it feels great -- soothing and refreshing -- smells delicious but doesn't compromise on styling like so many other "scalp" shampoos. Oh, and it's silicone free.

Defining Mascara
I want my lashes to look full but defined -- I am not a fan of clumps. And that's exactly why the new CoverGirl Total Tease Mascara, $9, comes with a tiny teasing comb on the end of the brush. After applying the product to make lashes look thick, dark and long, you go back in with the miniature comb and separate each and every lash. (It's basically the safety pin trick but a lot less scary.)

Hair Brush BFF
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but my brushes are disgusting. Hair and product builds up, and then cleaning them becomes an insurmountable task. That is, until I brought home the Sephora Brush Meets Comb Hair Brush Cleaner, $10. This little rake pulls everything off a brush in a matter of seconds, making the process infinitely more bearable.

Every month, we round up the best new beauty products hitting store shelves. For May 2017, there's a drugstore mascara with a tiny built in teasing comb, an LED eye mask that zaps wrinkles in three minutes, and even a new makeup brush attachment for your trusty Clarisonic. These new beauty products are innovative, exciting and unlike anything else. So get yourself to the nearest Sephora, drugstore or computer -- we know you'll be excited to shop after clicking through our list.
