Lucy Hale's Makeup Secrets

• As bonafide Pretty Little Liars obsessives, yes, we would like to know the secrets to Lucy Hale's flawless makeup. Her makeup artist Fiona Stiles reports that -- surprise, surprise -- Hale has flawless skin to begin with. "It's this gorgeous olive color but she's very pale, so her features really pop. I started by focusing on her skin, which I think is the most important feature, doing subtle highlighting and contouring (nothing like the Kardashians). I did a soft application of foundation, a soft contour on the cheek, then subtle highlights on the bridge and tip of her nose." Her tips for us regular mortals? "The fairer you are, the lighter you need to go on the highlighting and contouring, but everyone looks great with just a little." Good to know! And just in case you were hoping that someone that pretty was a total jerk or something, nope, no dice. Says Stiles, "Oh my god, working with her is an absolute ray of sunshine. She's so sweet and she's super professional, and she's just got this face that you can do anything with."[Beauty High]   read more

How Jetsetters Fly So Pretty

Ahhh, the life of a jetsetter. So glamorous -- in theory.

The Fantasy: Sipping on Champagne in first class, you're delighted to find your seatmate is a.) mildly famous, b.) ridiculously attractive and readily available, or c.) absent, so you can have the row to yourself. Plus-Size Model Robin Lawley Is Anti-Thigh Gap

• Plus-size model Robin Lawley just gave us another reason to love her: She penned an op-ed for the Daily Beast about the time she found a photo of her body was used on a "pro-thigh gap" Facebook page. "The truth is I couldn't care less about needing a supposed "thigh gap." It's just another tool of manipulation that other people are trying to use to keep me from loving my body. Why would I want to starve and weaken my natural body size? I'm not saying women who have it naturally are unattractive. But I would have to change my entire frame just to achieve something that seems so trivial." She continues: "I want my thighs to be bigger and stronger. I want to run faster and swim longer. I suppose we all just want different things, but women have enough pressure as it is without the added burden of achieving a 'thigh gap.' The last thing I would want for my future daughter would be to starve herself because she thought a 'thigh gap' was necessary to be deemed attractive." [Daily Beast]   read more

And The Size Women Are Happiest At Is ...

• Size matters, but it's not the size you think. It turns out women care about their dress size, but we're not all clamoring to be a tiny size zero. According to research commissioned by So Fabulous for Littlewoods.com, which is a plus-size clothing company (so yes, definitely consider the source), it's women who are a British size 16 -- an American size 12 -- are happiest with their appearance. A survey of 2,000 women found that a full 74 percent of size 12s claimed to be content with their size -- compared with just 42 percent of size 6 (that's an American size 2) women. Women surveyed said they most envied the bodies of Nigella Lawson, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Christina Hendricks and Adele. Yup, we wouldn't mind looking like Beyonce, either. A Common Chemical Peel Ingredient May Cause Cancer

We all want to look younger, but at what price? Chemical peels can make you look younger, but beware: putting strong acids on you skin may also have unwanted affects. That's because a compound commonly used in many peels, called trichloroacetic acid, or TCA, has been linked to cancer. This past summer, the International Agency on Cancer Researched classified TCA as a suspected human carcinogen, and the state of California listed the acid on its state registry of toxic substances. Scientists are quick to say that they're not sure of the real risks of TCA yet, but that alone should be a cause for concern.   read more
