7 Ways to Make Thinning Hair Look Great

As someone who's always had a relatively thick, healthy head of hair, hair loss wasn't even on my radar. I mean, sure, I knew that it was an issue many men and women contend with. But happily, I'd never had any personal dealings with it. Then a friend -- a contemporary in her thirties -- began regaling me with her thinning hair tales of woe and I learned that hair loss can hit you out of left field at pretty much any age. Swell. Something else to fret about.   read more

8 High-End Hair Products Worth Every Penny

We have a policy here at Total Beauty: The more a product costs, the more it needs to wow us. A $2 lip gloss that's a little sticky? Meh, we can deal. A $30 lip gloss that pulls the same stunt -- sorry, that's just not going to fly.   See products

Finding The Best Hair Colors For Dark Skin

You see it all the time - dark skin with light hair as well as pale skin with dark hair. Some pull it off well, like Beyonce and Megan Fox, while so many others try taking the same route and fall short (example: when Kim Kardashian went blonde). Now why is that? One major element many people fail to take into consideration when coloring their hair is skin undertone. Some people have warm under tones, while others have cool under tones. To check your undertones, simply go into the sunlight and look at the veins in your wrist. If they appear blue, your undertones are cool. If they look green, your undertones are warm. Most dark skinned women tend to have warm undertones. This plays a big part in finding the best hair colors for dark skin.   see tips

Stylist Tips For Coloring Asian Hair

One issue that many Asian women face when coloring hair is going from dark to light, while avoiding brassiness. Helene Sheptin, a Los Angeles-based celebrity hair stylist, says that her first suggestion for coloring Asian hair is to avoid clashing hair color with skin tone. She recommends avoiding violet, platinum blonde, white and blue-tinged shades when choosing hair colors, because these can clash with Asian skin tones. This is not to say that a girl cannot have blonde Asian hair or even red Asian hair, but layering color is important in order to allow good contrast between colors. This will also add a shimmering effect to hair, which adds luster. Highlights are a great way to transition into a lighter hair color, adding texture and depth as well as the illusion of fullness.   see stylist tips

How I Camouflage a Bad Hair Day

Bad hair days. We've all been there ... and it's so frustrating. When I had long hair, I wanted to cut it because it was way too heavy, greasy, and flat. So I cut it short ("low maintenance, here I come!") and was thrilled until pieces started sticking out every which way. Now, while it's growing out, it just looks dented and weird most days.   See styles

Hair Care Information and Advice

If you're like most women, then you're concerned about the appearance of your hair, and will do what it takes to take care of it. Starting now, it's time to banish dull and dry hair from your life, and take better care of your hair to get lustrous locks that will turn heads. To help you, Total Beauty offers you expert tips on hair care for shiny, glossy hair.

If your hair is in good condition and is healthy, then your hair care regime will only need a few tweaks to keep your tresses looking great. One way to have healthy hair is to maintain a healthy lifestyle; your mane will be in better condition, naturally. Your daily diet should include plenty of water, as well as lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Opt for grilled or baked dishes rather than fried food, and limit your intake of cola or coffee, which have excess caffeine.

Perming, bleaching, or coloring frequently cause damage to your hair as they strip the shaft of its natural oils. Experts say that hair should have at least eight percent moisture for it to look silky and shiny. Using products meant for chemically treated hair can protect your tresses and make them look smooth and glossy.

Look through Total Beauty's hair care section to discover great secrets for gorgeous locks. Total Beauty offers some of the best hair care advice on the web, so you can have great hair all the time.
