How to Get a Perfect Celebrity Braid (like Fergie's)
- Posted by Charli on August 12, 2008 at 06:29PM

This just in: Fergie sported this hip fish tail (aka herringbone) braid, courtesy of celebrity hair stylist Patricia Morales, at the Teen Choice Awards. Copy her look with these steps:
1. Prep damp hair with a cocktail of volumizing mousse and either a shine serum or a damaged hair treatment (like Redken Extreme Anti-Snap, $14.95 at salons).
2. Use your fingers and a blow-dryer to rapidly dry hair, emphasizing your natural texture. (Fergie's is wavy.)
3. Center part your hair and create a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Secure with an elastic (optional -- it helps hold the ponytail together while you're working).
4. Split the ponytail in two equal halves. Hold both halves in one hand, keeping them separate with your finger.
5. Take a small section of hair (about 1/4-1/2") from the outside of the right half and bring it over that half to join the left half.
6. Reverse your hands to hold both halves in your other hand, then bring a small section of the left half over to join the right half.
7. Repeat the above two steps until you reach the end of your braid, then secure with an elastic. If you want to get fancy, wrap a small section of the unbraided hair around the elastic to cover it and secure with a bobby pin.
