  • How to Get a Perfect Celebrity Braid (like Fergie's)

  • This just in: Fergie sported this hip fish tail (aka herringbone) braid, courtesy of celebrity hair stylist Patricia Morales, at the Teen Choice Awards. Copy her look with these steps:

  • 1. Prep damp hair with a cocktail of volumizing mousse and either a shine serum or a damaged hair treatment (like Redken Extreme Anti-Snap, $14.95 at salons).

  • 2. Use your fingers and a blow-dryer to rapidly dry hair, emphasizing your natural texture. (Fergie's is wavy.)

  • 3. Center part your hair and create a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Secure with an elastic (optional -- it helps hold the ponytail together while you're working).

  • 4. Split the ponytail in two equal halves. Hold both halves in one hand, keeping them separate with your finger.

  • 5. Take a small section of hair (about 1/4-1/2") from the outside of the right half and bring it over that half to join the left half.

  • 6. Reverse your hands to hold both halves in your other hand, then bring a small section of the left half over to join the right half.

  • 7. Repeat the above two steps until you reach the end of your braid, then secure with an elastic. If you want to get fancy, wrap a small section of the unbraided hair around the elastic to cover it and secure with a bobby pin.
