  • If you've been keeping up with our latest stories, you probably heard that we recently survived yet another New York Fashion Week (sometimes it feels like we're getting too old for this fashion and beauty marathon …). We reported on 16 hair and makeup shortcuts we got from the pros backstage, and we even pointed our cameras at real women like makeup artists, photographers, PR gals, etc. to capture the trendy hair, makeup and nail trends they were sporting.

  • To keep the torch of NYFW burning, we thought we share some tips from Matthew Morris, Lead Stylist from Shu Uemura Art of Hair, who created a messy-on-purpose pony for the Andy & Debb show. So if you have long hair, follow these steps to creating an edgy pony:

  • Step 1: Apply at texturizing spray like Shu Uemura Liquid Fabric, $33 to wet hair to enhance your hair’s natural texture.

  • Step 2: Blow dry your hair using a large round brush.

  • Step 3: Add a protective volumizer like TRESemme Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse, $4.52 to dry hair -- this will gently fatten hair while giving some movement and body to it.

  • Step 4: Create a low pony, securing it with a hair elastic.

  • Step 5: Tease your hair gently with a fine-toothed comb to create a volume-packed, plump pony. And if you want a softer look, pull out a few strands of face framing hair.

  • Step 6: Keep your style in place by using a finishing spraying such as Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray, $8.
