Quiz: Are You Using the Right Mascara?

See if the eye makeup you're coating your lashes in is the best formula for you

Buxom.
Colossal.
Luscious.
Atomic.

What are we describing? Your eyelashes, of course. Well, this is the way makeup companies think you should be describing your eyelashes anyway. And they're right, aren't they? Don't we all just crave big, thick luxurious eyelashes? Wouldn't we love strangers to stop us on the street and beg us for the secrets to our lavish lashes as we bashfully admit to the eye makeup we used that morning to create them? Whoa, even we had to shake ourselves out of that daydream just now.

Scroll down to start taking the quiz to discover which mascara is best for you.

The point is, you would be hard pressed to find a woman out there who didn't want show-stopping eyes. But with so many eye makeup options out there, how are we supposed to know which mascara best suits our individual needs? That's why we created this quiz to make sure you are using the right makeup for your lashes -- the mascara that best accentuates your eyelashes and therefore makes your eyes stand out.

So go ahead and start taking the quiz below to find your best mascara and be sure to keep these expert tips from celebrity makeup artist, Chuck Hezekiah, in mind when you apply yours:

Tip 1: Always move the wand in a swift, zig-zag fashion from lash roots to tips as opposed to one sweeping motion.
Tip 2: If you are using a mascara primer, make sure to wait 10-30 seconds for it to dry, then apply your mascara as this will keep it from looking "diluted" or gray as opposed to black.
Tip 3: When applying multiple coats of mascara, avoid putting several coats on one eye at a time. Instead, switch from one eye to the next before applying a second coat in order to let your lashes dry between coats.

Quiz: Are You Using the Right Mascara?

You should be using a curling mascara. Your straight lashes need some curl, but that doesn't mean you have to turn to a lash curler, which can often break or pull out lashes. Instead, try a formula that has curling technology, which won't weight lashes down and a thin or curved brush, which aids the curling process.

Try these reader favorites:

Kevyn Aucoin Beauty Mascara, $25

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara, $14

If you have problems with mascara flaking off or if you have an oily scalp or face and you can never get mascara to stay on your lashes, opt for a waterproof formula like Maybelline New York Sky High Curves Waterproof Mascara, $6.99

If you still feel like you need extra curling action for stubbornly straight lashes, try blasting your eyelash curler with your blow dryer to heat it up before using it. And remember to throw out your mascara after three months of use, says Hezekiah, adding that dried up formulas will weigh your lashes down.
