Quiz: Does Your Foundation Suck?
Your best foundation type is a tinted moisturizer or a cream foundation that offers light to medium coverage..
"Creams will help add emollients to dehydrated skin as will the tinted moisturizer," says Stern. Wear it alone for sheer coverage or mix it with a heavier foundation for medium coverage. Look for moisture-rich formulas that contain ingredients like SPF, avocado and vitamin E to help protect against environmental damage. Ones to try: Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, $42; Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Tinted Moisturizer, $70; Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Cream Foundation, $9.49
TIP: "If your skin is dry and flaky, try using a gentle exfoliant before you moisturize," says Bass. "Then give your face a couple of minutes to absorb moisturizer before you apply foundation."
