No. 5: Phoenix, Arizona Phoenix has the most extreme climate in all of America and hard water to boot! (Put moisture back into your hair with one of these hair masks.)
I agree w/some of this , but any smart person let alone an idiot would know that wen you live in Vegas, No sane person hangs out in the sun, even the pools all have covers..obviously that idiots never live in Las Vegas, as where I had for years.
I have a friend who lived in Albuquerque, NM and she basically said the same thing. But bad hair wasn't the only thing... she said they didn't dress very well either. I've never been so I don't know if it's true or not...
Just spent a week in New Orleans and I can attest to the hard water. My hair never felt clean. I spent 3x as long in the shower rinsing as I do at home.
i am african american and i have to get my hair done at LEAST weekly. in houtston's hot summer weather makes it even tougher. is best to stay in somewhere COOL.

@Nella6993: Wooooowwwww! I'm all about expressin myself but holy jeezus crackers! Chill dude its just an article... its about hair... so what? has nothing to do with race honey. I hate that ever single time sombody writes somethin, some loud thing has come in and talk about how we're not including YOU in it. white isnt the majority anymore and there is a black president so why are yall STILL cryin??
This is a very poor writer. Not only does this article present a very curt sense of humor, it also overemphasizes unnecessary teases at an array of great towns and cities. Being a native Houstonian myself, I've grown up to learn how to manage with the weather, but this author must be dense if he or she assumes that a lack of salons or humid weather results a city of unsightly hairs. It would be different if this author assessed these matters as a means to "qualify" the facts with actual advice -which, I assume was attempted, however through the poorest techniques was it executed- yet with the author's addition of whatever he or she supposedly thought to be "witty" was, in fact, jeering at other small towns and their culture. The remarks of "wisdom" were not typed to exist in their own ineffective one-liner solitare, but were made to "pack a punch," because according to this author, due to a lack of yellowpage listed hair stylists, it will be "difficult to find hip style" in that area because it is the " top destination for retirees." And who cares?! Is the author suggesting that older people are incapable of creating wonderful NEW things? So yup, tell the producers to cancel James Cameron's next film 'cause 'up, I think he's graying. Oh and Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood should just give all that movie making a rest too. What a disappointment. But how bet we just disregard all of that because this biased columnist has still yet to acknowledge different hair types. Being of African American heritage, my hair reacts differently others, and this can be said for Latinos, Biracials, Asians, Caucasians, curly headed, straight hair, wavy, relaxed, and natural alike- BECAUSE WE'RE ALL DIFFRENT- and there is nothing wrong with that. This piece of evidence just exemplifies this writer's sense of inconsideration. I mean really, what publishing company or online website would want a columnist that advises people to "LEAVE Las Vegas" and "get [their] hair cut by the neighbor's kid"? I have come away from reading this article, not only disgusted at this lack of rhetorical taste but also this unprofessional, facetious, conceited critique of an uneducated online columnist who has most surely written a solid piece of nothing that -through my reading- has wasted moments of my life that I will never get back. What a waste of online published space. And I just turned 18 this month.
How did MO NOT make this list? I mean my hair is frizzy all the time now with the spring weather coming in. I think the whole state should be on the list, because whether its STL or KC my hair is always frizzy here. Oh yeah and in CHI....IL 2
How idiotic. You've obviously never been to Pensacola. I'm so glad to see the writers in America rely on cliche and passe statements in their so call "articals"... Peon.
If you're an African American woman and there are not a lot of salons that cater to your hair needs then I suggest reading this article. Help me out a lot

Phoenix is not a bad hair city! I live there and my hair looks the best when I'm home. There's no humidity so it doesn't get frizzy and contrary to what they say, it doesn't get dried out. Someone needs to do their research. Where are Honolulu and Miami? Humidity is your hair's worst enemy!
wow, of course my home of pittsburgh PA made it on here. i will admit that my hair can get pretty frizzy and i have to do a lot to it, but its not polluted here. that was a long long long time ago wehn we had all of the steel mills here, but most of them are gone. there's just about as much pollution here as there is anywhere else.
Eugene is not humid! It rains a lot, but is in no way humid. It gets super hot and dry in the summer, and very rainy and cold basically from october through may. In fact, whenever I travel I'm shocked by how muggy it is in every other state but Oregon! The only thing that ruins your hair is the rain and wind.
Whoever researched that Cincinnati only have eight hairstylists listed in the yellow pages does not do enough research. This is a large city. We are not in the back hills. Give me a break. Do you realize what year this is? I go to the hair salon every week, because I love the salon products and clean hair. I would not trust this information from a researchers who made that statement: only eight hairstylists listed on yellowpages.com. You are lazy!
That's a lie. Cincinnati have a million hair stylists. I believe the water maybe the problem (chemicals and being hard water). But stylists is a joke. Come to Cincinnati it is a hair salon on every corner
You forgot San Francisco- Where the fog rolls in *every night* over the Golden Gate Bridge. The days are barely warm and it rains for MONTHS at a time.
You forgot New York! It gets extremely humid and when I visited, I had to dump conditioner on my hair 3x a day to keep it from frizzing;
haven't you seen "Sex in the City?" Sarah Jessica Parker's hair was all over the place!!
The Spelling Cops here. Olympia is the capital city of Washington not the capitol city. The location of the seat of government is the capital with an "-al." The building where the legislature meets is the capitol building. That's capitol with an "-ol." No need to thank us because we're just helpful this way.
I live in McKnney,Tx and have hard water and dread locks!!! There are few hair salons that cater to black hair, HELP somebody!!! What do you do with dreads and hard water??
OMG! I just knew my city - Pittsburgh - would be on this list! There are so many people hear that are having trouble with thinning hair, including me. I need to move!
I have family in Hawaii, so my trips there are frequent and I can tell you being half fillipino/hawaiian I have semi-thick,semi-wavy,semi-dry long hair and I have yet to have a good hair day while I'm visiting. On the other hand, I am only 2 hours from Vegas and am used to the dry whether. I may sweat to death while walking on the strip, but my hair stays in place. I frequent our California beaches and as soon as I hit anything past the O.C. it's frizz city...so I believe that if you live somewhere long enough you will adapt to having great hair no matter where you are! I think the article reference "only a handful" of stylist within a certain city pertains to getting a "haircut" and getting a "hairstyle". I wouldn't want to go to Joe the Barber or Jane fresh out of beauty school.
Yes! I am so glad to see other Vegas ladies representing! Vegas weather= great hair! I've been living in Louisiana for the past few years and I can't wait to move back to Vegas and have cute hair again! No humidity, no rain!
I lived in Phoenix for many years. It's true, it's dry air, hot weather, and hard water. I now live in Corpus Christi but the humidity has not caused my hair to be frizzy at all. I guess you have to have curly hair to begin with!!
Ummm, lets just say Hawaii is totally missing from this, we may not have pollution but we are super close to the equator and have extreme humidity. We also cant spend every day at the beach. Trying to look nice and commute in this weather in office appropriate clothing is seriously a challenge. Luckly, I get a straight perm either wise my normally wavy hair would be a hot mess.
Imagine my surprise when I clicked the 'next' button to show Corpus Christi Tx as the No.1 Worst Hair Cities. I currently live in Corpus Christi, and while this may or may not be true regarding humidity, the statement that we only have a handful of hair salons is completely false. This statement alone makes discredits the entire article. Our yellow pages includes 11 whole pages of beauty salons when including listings and advertisements. This article was simply written in a way to hide its true agenda - HAIR PRODUCT ADVERTISING. This article stinks.
In defense of Cincinnati, I have to say there are far more hairdressers in Cincinnati than eight. I think the fact that the yellowpages only lists eight stylist has more to do with the yellowpages becoming obsolete as opposed to the number of great hairdressers in Cincinnati.

Pittsburgh has short-term particle pollution issues, which relate to asthma. However, compared to the other cities on your list Pittsburgh does not have the highest overall pollution levels. Get your facts right before making sweeping generalizations. When you make false statements like that you take away any credibility you might have in your other stories. Now, I am not sure I believe anything you write if you clearly can't do your homework....
I have to disagree with you about Pittsburgh being very polluted. It used to have alot of steel mills which created the pollution, but since they have mostly all shut down, the only problems we have here is that we live in the city of the "three rivers" which is very humid. Other than that, you are very wrong about the pollution. That was like 30 years ago. Where did you get your information?
Come on, now.. how can there NOT be a city in Oklahoma on this list? We have terrible humidity, wind, and we set record highs and lows all in one day. I go to places in the W/SW region of the US and my curly/frizzy hair is PERFECT. Here, it's just flat out frizzy and scary.
I don't understand how Las Vegas can be on this list. As one who suffers from curly frizzy hair if I even think of moisture in the air, my hair always stays looking fine in Vegas. Sure, the sun isn't good for your hair but places like Florida not only have the intense sun but humidity also which is a definite no-no for hair.
How is Pittsburgh the most polluted city? We no longer have active steel mills. We have technology and health care businesses here now. We have very upscale salons. Our summers are somewhat humid, but it's more humid in FL and LA. Where do you people get off bashing Pittsburgh? Aren't you up on current events? All the steel mills are now defunct.
How does Austin, Texas rate on the humidity radar? We have an abundance of stylists, but I still have trouble getting a well cut head of hair and wonder if my slight tendency to wave and curl is humidity related or stylist related?
anywhere in louisiana the humidity is ridiculous ive been living here a short while and have naturally curly hair, i wouldnt even attempt to wear it straight id be so ashamed at the afro lol! this air will puff your hair
oh ain't that the truth! I was in Houston last year and nothing helped my long red locks:| I live in Cincinnati and it true about the lack of salons, there are more than 7 here...it's a shame they are not advertising.
How about you all calm the heck down...it's not even that serious of an article. Don't you have more IMPORTANT things in your lives to worry about? Yikes!
houston is AMAZING on my hair. when i lived in mpls it was a LOT worse than it has been since i moved to h-town 3 months ago.houston isnt even as humid as mpls. this is so inaccurate!
This is the most inane and ignorant piece I have seen on this website. I stopped visiting the site regularly shortly after the Earth Month bit you did last year. I don't see that this year, though. So long!
FYI, Pittsburgh hasn't been the most polluted city in the US since the 1970s. Where do you get your info? I will no longer take advice from this webpage...you just showed your flaws.
Having lived in both Phoenix and Pittsburgh I can tell you that Phoenix is much more polluted. Pittsburgh will continue to be kept down by people like the author who has most likely never been there. It is more easy to stereotype than to research.
Las vegas is the best weather for your hair!! I never ever had a bad hair day. I been there in September, June, august, and recently febuary. I was thinking of moving there due to how good my hair always looked.
Las Vegas is bad for your hair? Are you kidding me? I've been a resident for almost eleven years and I have to say that living in this city is great for your hair. There is very little humidity and ladies always have a great hair day here. Our hair isn't "sun damaged". I think your writers based this story on opinions, not fact. Las Vegas residents don't sit outside all day baking in the sun. This article is nothing but a joke.
regarding the pittsburgh as one of the most polluted cities, the air testing was done so poorly it was almost classifies as junk science. The monitors placed in Allegheny County were positioned immediately downwind (literally meters) from one of the few large factories remaining in the county...of course you're going to get awful results. I currently live in Bucks County PA, supposedly an idyllic, historic spot in America, north of Fhilthadelphia...truly a polluted city...and I can tell you the people with allergies, asthma, and other breathing problems, far outweighs those in Pittsburgh. Whenever I'm back in Pgh I actually notice how much cleaner and lighter the air feels compared to the east coast.
Your comments about Pittsburgh are ignorant and uninformed. It is less polluted than many cities, and to call it the "pitts" is offensive and unnecessary in the context of your so-called researched list. There are fantastic salons and stylists in Pittsburgh, and many great heads of hair and styles. Your attitude toward an entire city is a turn off to me and other Pittsburghers who will not be using your site in the future.
Haha, actually, I LIVE in Eugene, and have been for at least 3 years, and I must say, even though it rains plenty, the summers are dry, with the occasional humid day like any other town. I literally gasped when I saw it on there.
LMAO!!REALLY LOL, almost fell out of my chair... still LMAO @ pennysaver's comment!! you must have not been anywhere else besides your "Pittsburh" LOL... many beautiful women with beautiful hair... extensions are not included!!! omg, i can't stop laughing
Hey you idiots. Seattle is the Emerald City. How about doing some research before writing an article or even better...how about being being intelligent and knowing a little geography! Good work breaking the stereotype!
