Q: What acne-fighting ingredients should adults use?

A: Some of the ingredients are similar to the ones you may have used in your teen years: do salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide ring any bells? But King says there are plenty of other beneficial ingredients that can help minimize acne, plus keep skin looking youthful and prevent scaring or discoloration.

To minimize inflammation, look for: licorice, biotin, camphor, tea tree and green tea.

To slow oil production, use: zinc sulfate, tea tree, caffeine and niacinamide.

To help exfoliate and also slow oil production, try: salicylic or glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur or zinc oxide.

I didn't know that adult acne has to be treated differently from teenage acne. I've had acne since in my teens. It was on my forehead and nose in my teens and is now on my cheeks and chin at 30. I would have never thought of putting oil on my face before especially with it already being oily.

Acne has been the bane of my existence since I was 11 years old. I left the pizza face stage around 18 and then, bring on the adult cystic acne thank you very much. I can keep it under control when I wash my face every single day. If I miss just 1 day, it is guaranteed I will have blemish the next day. I am going to try a couple of these remedies. Thank you!

Once my acne turned into golf balls on my face I endured 6 months of Accutane. It was worth every penny. I am about to turn 30 and I have bigger issues to deal with now, like wrinkles.
