Wait a minute--I have to disagree with some things here. Red lips (which might be intimidating) were mentioned twice. What's wrong with bangs? Depending on your facial shape and features, it might be your best look. Some of the tips were perfect, but I disagree with others.

All sounds accurate, in my experience. However, I don't do my hair makeup for my guy, I do it for myself and because it's really fun. I love doing new looks. However, some guys do like these looks. I've met guys who love red lipstick and curly hair, albeit not huge hair like the lady, but curly/wavy all the same. Also, I find that whenever guys say they don't like makeup, it's usually not 100% true. I've had guys say this to me, only to catch checking out a women wearing makeup and really dressed up. I think that if it looks good, a woman will attract a man no matter what. I think if the hair or makeup is too obvious, then this is what's a turnoff, not so much that they're wearing makeup/hair/clothes only.

First off, women don't dress or do their make up/hair for men, they do it for themselves (most of them that is).. and yes Beauty's in the Eyes of the Beholder,many guys love red lips, others hate it, others love girls that look simple with lil make up on, others love the goth/punk look. indeed they must have been lil teen boys, they don't like anything and the comments from them are very immature and rude, and i don't think that any woman/girl with self esteem would want to date guys that superficial. my best advice is be yourself and you will attract a guy that loves you for you and how you look, instead of stop wearing things that you like to look more attractive in the eyes of those that,in the end don't like you for you. because those that care don't matter and those that matter don't care.

I think Miriamhyde is right. All of these things that men hate really depend on the person, and the way it is worn. I, personally, do not like short hair for myself but i do think it looks great on some women. Red lips? the red looks nice on almost everyone if you can find the shade that fits you; otherwise it can look like too much. Smokey eyes should probably be kept for the night time so that you dont look overdone. Bangs are nice but i dont like the long bangs that hang low almost over your eyes. Baseball cap; it depends as well because some females can pull it off to look cute and others look like they are hiding their hair under there.

I understand why some people are confused, as men and women have very different opinions on things. For example they think its "hot" to have their trousers half way down their legs, however most women will disagree. But this doesnt mean that they change how they look! I think that if you like dark red lips and pixie cut hair then you should do what you like! You should have a guy that likes you for you, it shouldnt matter what haircut you have or what lipstick you're wearing! As long as you're happy and confident, you will find someone who will love you for YOU and not what is considered "normal!" However I do agree with the men on some of these, caked on foundation just really isn't sexy. This doesnt mean that you shouldn't wear make up, it just means not too much. Make up is all about making the most of what you have. It doesnt make you fake! When I wear make up it makes me feel more confident, and that isn't a bad thing thing that i have to wear make up to be confident, it just means that I make the most of what I have and I cant help it if I'm not naturally "perfect" looking. I think that natural beauty is over rated to be honest as we cant help how we were born to look can we?! I sometimes wish people can appreciate that but oh well, im happy and thats all that matters, right?! :)

I don't do it for men, my fiance does not care weather my make up is on or off or if my hair is long or short or messy or in a pony tail. I wear make up and I wear it pretty dark. I DO NOT wear it to please men, I do it because of the same reason I dress in dark clothes or the same reason I listen to music. It is to express who I am and what I am feeling. I love that most of the people who are arguing with this article are women. I find almost all of these true. Another look that I find annoying is is the bangs pulled back in the front like Gwen Stefani and Scarlett Johanson used to have. Most girls that wear a lot of eye make up have those sunk in lines. At least that is what I find out with most after we go swimming or after a shower. Still not saying that these will not say I won't mess around with women with these looks. I just won't stay committed to someone with them or drop hints about perhaps changing it. I think dark lipstick makes many women look like drag queens. That said, I think it is more important for a woman to feel good about herself and how she looks on the inside and the outside. I'm a straight male and I can say I agree fully with 10 out of 12. Dislike bangs, dislike the raccoon eyes, pixie cuts or any short hairstyles is a no no..Especially in Emma Watson's case. Couldn't tell if she was a woman or a boy. My biggest one is the dark red lipstick. Especially if they have full thick lips. They end up looking like the joker. Its interesting to read the comments. You have half of them being butt hurt and feeling insecure because they found out their "look" is something not to be desired. You have the other half spewing bs out of rage. The ones going "I do it for myself to make myself look good, men should not dictate how I should look"..Shut up. You do it to attract the opposite sex. You spend an hour in front of the mirror and hundreds of dollars on makeup to look pretty..FOR MEN. Women that go "I do it for myself not a man" is either an idiot or shes subconsciously doing it for men and just doesn't realize it. This is just one of the many 'studies' that ask such a small irrelevant amount of people in their 20's (brain dead age range) and people act as if it holds merit. If people are getting insecure over things like this....then yeaaaaaaaaaaa. Now if it asked to put a poll up on askmen/gq/fhm and several other sites then you could be throwing a hissy.

The problem with these pictures is they're not real women. They're actresses who are held to a different standard of what's "acceptable" to wear for hair, makeup and clothes (ahem, Lady Gaga). If they took pictures of popular looks on REAL women--aka not models or actresses--and had them wearing a realistic look I think the results would be a little different. For example I have bangs but definitely not the ones in the Jessica Alba picture. Hers are too full and long. Most women I see wearing bangs have it side swept and easy going but still pretty. No wonder that guy thought she was hiding something like bad eyebrows and acne!

Great insight but I think the above remarks about "makeup/hair men hate" is a little misleading due to at times in our life ... Age which has a lot to do with it, dressing for an event or just because the looks/makeup can be flattering and appealing to a man. By the way I have been an offender of almost all of the above and have NEVER had any trouble snagging guys, getting drinks bought for me (when I did drink), and I've been proposed to twice (and am happily married). I'm from NYC and I've dated guys that have said "I wish you wore your your hair up more often, I love to see your neck," and (upon my asking if guys even like red lipstick, "Are you kidding? It's so sexy, when I saw your red lips I wanted to come over." And they sure did, and there were number exchanges and follow-ups on their ends, thank you very much. This is stupid. According to this article, the only way I can have hair that men find attractive, is if I spend thousands of dollars on my hair a year. My hair is very fine and soft and it only looks good natural if it's short/edgy, if I grow it long, it will look mousy and easily to tangled to look like "bed head." Otherwise I'd have to spend at least $1200 a year on hair extensions. Men don't understand how much time and money and thought women spend on their looks.

And in other articles men want natural no fuss looks, some think girls who can wear baseball caps are cool and sexy. but other want women to show some interest in their looks as if they care, so the men feel like the women care about them some how or other. Why is this website putting so much credence into what MEN think? A woman should be able to wear what she wants! As for meeting men in a bar, don't even get me started! If a woman wants to meet a quality man who loves her as she is, then stay out of the bars. That's what I say. lol, no offense to the women but this is actually extremely accurate, articles like this don't promote trends and products which is why they aren't publicized often, but all articles like this I've read have had the same results. This isn't saying these styles are unattractive, and not all men dislike them, but these are generalized as to what men see when they see these images. Men don't see past the bedhead to know that there's work put into the hair and it's sexy, they just see the bedhead, and think it's dirty and messy. Men don't understand beauty the way women do and this is what they really think. Most men think red lips are old and too made up, they think smoky eyes are scary and overdone, they think buns ponytails and such are boring and plain, they think short hair is mom hair, they like natural makeup because when they can't see the makup so obviously, they think it's natural beauty. It's true, and don't call the men rude because they were asked to give honest first impressions. My boyfriend likes some of the things in here, so this isn't to say all men are like this, and that all these things are no longer wearable. It's just informative, don't take it so seriously, and don't take it so literally. I personally find it amusing. Men's views of makeup are funny. Once I asked my bf if he liked an eyeshadow quad better than another one and he said no, and when I asked him why he said that he liked the green in the other one, not the blue in this one. And I was like, uhm you use more than one at once, not just the green by itself, and he was like oh.. Well I have no idea, just buy something. lol.

Don;t take this too seriously. AS a man I can say that I don't pay too much attention to such things. Different looks suit different women. Just go with what feels natural to you. I have no problem with baseball caps or bangs as well. A contrived look is more likely to attract a shallow person who is more hung up on a look than they are about the real person. ;-)

Most women don't wear their makeup or hair because they care the way men like it, rather we care how other women like or dislike it. Other than pleasing ourselves, statistics show women care more how other women see them than men, and no this is not lesbian women, but heterosexual women. Is it because we set out standards or get our approval from what other women think of us? Is it competitive? Who knows. But the truth is, most men could really care less, as long as we look good enough, are not an embarrassment , (and of course trophy girls are always welcome, but best not loose their stature! ). Wow - I've done many of these things and people (mostly guys) loved it. Pixie cut you have to have the right kind of face to pull off - same with the edgy cut - same as bangs (you can also do softer bangs, they don't have to be so blunt) I adore red lipstick but don't wear it everyday, and for a daytime look I use more of a sheer red, more of a tint. And I don't wear baseball caps but I've heard guys love it when women wear stuff like that? It's cute and casual.
