Are You Confusing Your Hairstylist?
See if any of these miscommunications sound familiar -- and learn how to avoid them
You say: "Get the red out."
They think: "You don't want any warmth."
Often what you think is "red" or "orange" is simply the warmth of your hair color, says Nancy Braun, lead colorist at Rossano Ferretti salon in Beverly Hills, Calif. Too much warmth can look "brassy"; however, some warmth looks more natural-looking than none at all. Ashy or cool shades, which are what you'll get if you remove all the warmth, don't look as natural or flattering on everyone. So before you become determined to "get the red out," talk to your stylist about what will look best with your skin tone. They might suggest lowlights (think dark highlights) or toner to tone down but not remove what you may call "red."

That tells me something right there--because while cutting split ends *might* mean cutting a few inches(unfortunately if you have lots), to me, *trim* means onehalf inch, not 1-3 inches!

I put blind faith in my stylist, whom I've been seeing for over five years. Hair grows back and if he cuts it shorter than what I expected, I go with it, hate it for a week, and fall in love with it after a few compliments start rolling in.

I am guilty of being that girl. Always too vague, and always set on one mental image. This helps with that issue a bit, but it's still a bummer when you can't rock the dream look you had in mind... :/

To me, any stylist who cuts off 3 inches when someone asks for a trim needs to be "trimmed" from her job.
