This story completely left out the best product on the market. Pernox face scrub has the most scrub particles to go along with salicylic acid to get rid of dead skin and oil. It's only drawback is the price of twenty five bills per 4 oz tube. I have been looking for a cheaper alternative but apparently Pernox is the best in both categories, effectiveness and price. If you want to get your acne under control I recommend Pernox Face Scrub. I have used it every day for over 25 years and can't live without it.

I used to use Susan Lucci's Youthful Essence Microdermabrasion and that product works great but it is a little pricey. I haven't tried a drugstore scrub since my bad reaction to a St Ives apricot scrub I used years ago but I may try the Burts Bees one now.

I've used the st ives green tea until it ran out, i thought it really did help my skin but i never have spoiled myself to getting a scrub over 10 dollars. I will definitely try the body shop seaweed scrub and im sure ill be impressed

I agree about the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and disagree about the Body Shop Seaweed Scrub. The seaweed scrub was far too harsh on my skin. One that I think should be included in the "best" list is Origins Modern Friction. It's effective, yet gentle and uses natural ingredients to slough off dead skin. I love it.

A list without ExfoliKate? I use Philosophy's Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash religiously, but ExfoliKate is five steps above it. I have to assume that it's not on the list due to the hefty price tag.

Good article, I have tried some you mentined. I think its important to distinguish between a manual exfoliant and a chemaical or non grit type. I know that at one time I didnt know and couldnt understand why an exfoliant product I got from Aveda had no granular texture. I now use a two art system from Neostrata granular scrub for two minutes and add liquid type of exfoliant togetherfor several minutes before rinsing it all off. I use it about 2x a week and its great. Even though it has the two types combined its ot too harsh ad the granular first allows the skin to absorb the other product much better. I dont know if the same product is in US as the company seems different in US than in Canada. I find this is great as two in one is a timesaver and effective couldnt be for daily use though. Great article just the part abou the types of exfoliant might be helpful as if I didnt know there are likely othrs who dont as well, particuarly important or women who are mature.

Most exfoliants with small granules were too rough on my dry skin. I got a professional facial to help with my dry skin and they recommended the Made from Earth Rooibos Tea Face Scrub that will dissolve dry skin without being so rough. Of course they wanted me to purchase an incredibly expensive product, but I decided to do some looking on my own. I settled on this Made from Earth Rooibos Scrub and have been very pleased. I can use it daily without it being too harsh on my skin. Even using it daily or every other day, the product has lasted a while (bought it in mid-August and still going here at Thanksgiving). It smells pleasant and feels soothing on my skin.

I use St. Ives scrub for sensitive skin. I love it! It isn't the green tea one... There is no residue at all! It makes my skin really soft. With any exfoliate, if you scrub too hard, it will damage your skin. Do it properly, and moisturize afterwards, and you won't have too many problems if you have a good scrub!

I think this is great advice. All exfoliators are not created the same and you should be aware of what your particular skin type needs most. Organic exfoliators can be the gentlest and most effective out there.

I read somewhere that you shouldn't use scrubs with seeds or nut shells as the beads in the first place, because they tend to have tiny jagged edges that scratch skin up microscopically.
