Laura Mercier Mineral Finishing Powder, $32
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 4.0*
Grand offenses: Messy and unnatural-looking. "This product puffs itself out into the air and disperses out of its container so that when you lift the lid, a pile of powder seems to flutter out everywhere. I've tried this over two types of foundations, [one] a powder and the other a liquid. Both finishes ... didn't look so natural and any dryness seemed to be accentuated and it settled into lines. [Also,] setting makeup with it looks 'done,' which a translucent powder shouldn't do." -- VLOnline

Revlon Colorstay Mineral Foundation , $13.99
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.0*
Grand offenses: Bad packaging and weak staying power. "The first application you put on will be nice (if you can get the powder to come out in a decent amount on the brush). It wears off very fast and I find myself applying it a lot throughout the day. Also, pieces of the brush bristles would sometimes come off and stay on my face." -- Cynderalla

Milani Minerals Smooth Finish Cream-to-Powder Foundation, $6.49
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.0*
Grand offense: Too-light coverage. "[I] bought this powder for the days I was too lazy to apply a liquid foundation. But I was disappointed. This works like a normal pressed power. It has light coverage and [does nothing for] an oily T-zone." -- Chelseacmx

Jane Be Pure Mineral Powder, $6.99
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.0*
Grand offense: Bad brush. "This mineral make-up does have a fine consistency, but the brush is not the right shape -- too long -- to buff the minerals in like you are supposed to. Colors were good, and the convenience was great -- if [only] the brush had performed better!" -- 1955Nurse

Jane Iredale Active Light, $25
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 4.0*
Grand offenses: Shifty, ineffective. "Each time I used it ... it not only settled into fine lines and called attention to this area but seemed to shift and collect in large almost lumps/lines." -- Isobelle
"I get really dark circles under my eyes and I felt that it didn't help correct this issue and almost made it look worse afterwards. I've played around with it a few times putting less and more to see if I could get the perfect amount and still wasn't impressed." -- nikkit20

Almay Pure Blends Mineral Makeup, $12.99
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 5.0*
Grand offense: Bad brush. "The makeup piled up in the middle of the brush, making it difficult to gain even coverage, and getting powder onto the brush became difficult when trying to gauge how much was already in there!" -- elizabasti

Raw Natural Beauty Raw Minerals Active Mineral Foundation, $30
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 6.0*
Grand offenses: Heavy, shiny and cakey. "Two words: hated it. It was way too shiny and the worst part is that one of the ingredients, bismuth oxychloride, makes my skin itchy. It looked fake and caked on even when I used different brushes (mine and the one included). I also tried using less and still got the same results. It claims not to be heavy, cakey, or irritating but I got all three when using this. It also didn't hold up on my T-Zone. It emphasized my tiny fine lines and made the cakiness look worse." -- mybabyrocks

L'Oreal Paris Bare Naturale Mineral Foundation, $15.25
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 6.0*
Grand offenses: Not user-friendly, irritating to skin. "I do not like that you have to completely open the container and hold the brush by the lid only to get powder and apply to your face. The color turned out to not be a good match to my skin tone and during the summer months when I perspire, it makes my face sting. Overall, a big disappointment." -- AnitaB

Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Blush, $12.99
TotalBeauty.com average member rating: 6.0*
Grand offenses: Bad packaging and uneven coverage. "This seems like a great idea, but it just doesn't work very well. The powder comes out in a big clump instead of distributing all over the bristles on the brush. Whenever I put it on, I end up with blotches and streaks. Now I end up tipping some out into the palm of my hand and using a different blush brush. This is an awful lot of work and mess, and it just isn't worth my time." -- Karolina
