The Hair Dryer That Will Give You the Best DIY Blowout Ever

We put Revlon's newest creation to the test to see if it's really worth all the hype.

The lengths we'll go for a good blowout are pretty impressive. We'll wake up at the crack of dawn to head to our local blow-dry bar for that just-out-the-salon 'do that, try as we might, is seemingly unattainable at home.

Whenever I get a blowout, I watch my stylist carefully in the mirror to try and steal tips as she works sheer magic on my strands -- twisting and twirling a simple round brush in all different directions to create voluminous, soft bends in the hair that frame my face just perfectly. And I think, "Yep, definitely can't do this at home."

As a beauty writer, I'm always trying new products, but I tend to stay away from anything in the blow-out department, as I'm self-proclaimed to be incapable of manipulating the blow dryer and brush to produce results even close to professional quality. My biggest issue is maneuvering the big, round bristle-clad brush while simultaneously applying the heat from the blow dryer. It's like I don't have enough hands to pull that off. So when Revlon introduced their latest creation, the One-Step Hair Dryer And Volumizer, I was intrigued. This thing combines the round brush and blow dryer into one machine that attempts to make the perfect blowout fool-proof.

The magic is all in the brush design. It looks like a regular old round brush. It has an oval shape and a mix of nylon pin and boar bristles that help grip the hair and keep frizz to a minimum. The blow dryer itself is inside the brush, so the air flows through it as you brush and style your hair. It has three heat settings -- low, high and cool -- and incorporates ionic technology to cut down drying time and damage, leaving your hair silky-smooth.

Not going to lie, when I took this thing out of its packaging I was a little intimidated. It's not much bigger than your average blow dryer, it just looks so different. It's exactly like the huge bristle brushes I have such trouble using when attempting to give myself a blowout. Except that there's a cord attached.

First, I sectioned off my hair, which is actually something I don't usually do when I blow-dry. Because this blow dryer is, in fact, a brush, I figured it would be easier and more manageably to dry in small sections. I was definitely right. I started with a small piece of hair, placing it carefully around the bristles and then turned the dryer on. I was most surprised that it didn't fry and damage my hair -- it was hot, but not too hot at all, especially given how closely wrapped my locks were around the brush. After just five or six slow brush strokes, the entire section was dry and good to go. It left my hair smooth and I also had control of the end pieces so I could frame them around my face.

Once I got to the top layers of hair, I noticed the biggest improvement. The round shape made it so easy to attain the volume I was looking for. It essentially lifts, smooths and straightens your hair all while giving it the height you desire. It's also really easy to hold and isn't too heavy so I didn't need to take arm rests in between sections.

All in all I was superimpressed. This blow-dryer really is easy to use, even for the most blow-out-incapable humans like myself. I was left with sleek, smooth and shiny hair that looked like it had been professionally blown-out, if I do say so myself.
