Variety reports that Oxygen network is jumping on the tippy-tail end of the extreme nail art bandwagon with "Nailed It!," a new competition pitting breakout nail designers against each other for worldwide nail art domination.

The show will follow standard competitive reality TV protocol -- think:
Project Runway and
America's Next Top Model with a roster of typecast nail artists competing in twice-weekly challenges that focus on their "ability to work with extreme themes and custom designs." At their disposal, nail artists will have nearly every material known to nail -- gels, wraps, polishes, glitter, lace, rhinestones, 3D objects and other "extreme" (unnamed) materials.

Letting my nails dry before I smudge them is a challenge in itself -- I can hardly wait to find out what these "extreme" materials include (Baby teeth? Caviar? Bits of Beyonce's weave?). The show is still in development, so no air date has been announced yet.

In other breaking nail art news, Oxygen's announcement coincides with a recent order for Swedish track competitor to
remove the rainbow polish from her nails at a track competition in Russia. The high-jump athlete painted her nails to protest recent anti-gay laws passed in Russia, but was informed that the act was in violation of conduct rules. The athlete, Emma Green-Tregaro, then painted her nails red, "for love," she said.
