Get Weekend-Ready Makeup in 20 Minutes

The Pixiwoos show you how to transform your everyday makeup into a subtly glam look

Here's a familiar experience: It's Friday evening, and you've got 20 minutes before you have to hop in your car and meet your friends. However your half-faded, work-appropriate makeup hardly seems right for a night of dancing or dinner at the new trendy restaurant in town. Fortunately, the Pixiwoos -- aka makeup-artists-turned-YouTubers, Sam and Nic Chapman -- are here to help. They stopped by the Total Beauty studio to show us how to transform everyday makeup into a subtly glam, night-out-worthy look. Watch the video for the full tutorial, or check out a few of their best tips below.

On choosing a makeup brush...
Use a synthetic brush with cream formulas because they tend to pick up pigment and clean up better than natural-bristle brushes. Natural bristle brushes are porous, so they soak up moisture, which can lead to snappage.

On flawless mascara application...
Use two different mascaras: Apply a regular, non-waterproof, mascara first, and then seal it with a water-resistant mascara. In addition to giving your mascara some staying power, this helps ensure that when you take off your mascara later, you won't take off all your lashes too.

On getting on-fleek eyebrows...
Do the bare minimum with brows, especially if you already have a bit of a smoky eye, so you don't look overly made up. Brush the brows up with a spoolie for a cleaner, more open effect. Then, take a brown eye shadow, and fill in areas that need it with short, upward strokes. Unless you have red hair, go for a brow color that looks a little bit gray-ish.

On faking a healthy glow...
Apply a warm-toned cream bronzer anywhere the sun hits your face. Then, add a tiny bit of highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones and brows. Pro tip: Your highlighter shouldn't show when it's dark. Finish the look by adding a peachy-colored cream blush on the cheeks.

On using cream products...
You don't need a setting powder over cream bronzer, highlighter or blush. Instead, use a tiny brush so you can precisely apply powder just where you need it (a little bit on the chin, forehead, below the cheeks and around the nose).

On getting a pretty pout... Apply lip color first and lip liner second to avoid giving yourself a "90s lip." Once you put on lipstick, concentrate your lip liner in the outside corners of your mouth, which will give your lips a pouty appearance.
