Residents get rent deductions for shedding pounds

We've told you about how Dubai is offering dieters gold in exchange for losing weight. Well in Osaka, Japan, you can get rent discounts based on the pounds you drop.

Residents at the Lady Share House B&D receive $1,000 yen (about $10) deductions for every 2.2 pounds they lose. Weight loss is measured every three months, and even the tenant's base rent price is determined by weight -- program administrators multiply the renter's weight by 1000 yen to calculate a monthly rate. Once moved in, women have access to a private gym and beauty deals. And in a cruel trick, renters are also given access to free unlimited junk food and soft drinks.

But there's a catch! Women who gain weight will see their rent go up. Ouch. Mari Kataoka of Broad Enterprise, the group that created the house, admits their tenants aren't who they expected. "We thought many overweight people would come here," said Kataoka, but we found out that many people who have a great body come here, and their goal is to maintain that physique."
