What It Does
Gelous Nail Gel, $6, is a base coat for nail polish. It bonds to the nail and has a tacky quality that helps hold your polish in place for days.

Its formula is packed with protein. In fact, the gel contains a specific protein: keratin. This is the same protein that's found in your nails to give them structure. Since keratin is a strengthening protein, this keratin-rich product helps build up your nails.

This gel also gives your manicure thickness. Each layer that you apply will help raise your polish just a bit higher than your fingernail bed. This helps achieve a salon-quality effect that you can't typically get at home with regular polish products.

With Gelous Nail Gel, your nails will look professionally manicured at a fraction of the price. This DIY nail job can be completed in just 20 minutes. That's a major time-saver when you consider that a salon manicure can take over an hour, and that's not even factoring in driving time.

How to Use It
There are several steps to doing an at-home gel manicure, but if you can use nail polish, you can use this product. You'll need a nail buffer, nail polish remover, your choice of nail polish, a top coat, and Gelous Nail Gel.

Remove: If you are wearing nail polish, take it off with nail polish remover.

Buff: Prepare your nails by going over the surface of each one with a nail buffer to remove the shine. This creates a bit of texture for your gel to stick to.

Clean: Swipe away nail dust and natural oils by going over your nails with another round of nail polish remover.

Coat: Apply a layer of Gelous Nail Gel. This coat should be thin. After applying it, sit tight for one minute. With each layer of gel and polish, pull the brush down over the tip of the nails to seal the ends.

Paint: After the minute is up, go over the gel layer with a coat of your selected nail polish. This layer should be thin, too. Wait three minutes before moving on.

Coat Again: Repeat the Gelous layer. As before, keep this layer thin and let it dry for one minute before moving on.

Paint Again: Once again, apply another thin layer of color. Give it one minute to dry.

Top: Finally, it's time for a top coat. Try using INM Out the Door Fast Drying Top Coat, $6, which pairs nicely with the gel product. After this is fully dry, your at-home gel manicure is complete!
